Holmes--Spinks II I turned it on due to hearing about it being robbery and Holmes dominating the first half. I saw a boring fight that Holmes definitely wasn't dominating and turned it off after about six rounds.
Many Jimmy Young fights. Guy was dull as dishwater who seemed to hate doing what is most vital in the sport of pugilism: throwing punches. Defensively sound, no doubt, but threw punches with the conviction of a schoolmarm.
With Young it all depended upon the type of fighter in the opposite corner. A fellow defensive counter punching boxer would produce a sleep inducing effect. Jimmy's fights with Muhammad Ali and Greg Page are two examples. And if Jimmy had have got the verdict in that close one with Ken Norton,we'd have seen a dull one between Young and Larry Holmes instead of that classic seventies finale between Larry and Ken. But put Jimmy in with a more aggressive type like a Foreman or a Lyle then we see a pretty good bout.
Lennox Lewis-Tony Tucker was pretty awful too. I fell asleep during that one, rather than turning it off.
Smoke Gainer vs JMM. Smoke was fighting like the most intimidated guy ever. Didn't want to do anything because he was scared of JMM's counters. Ran all night and then cried and pulled out when there was a head clash. Truly the most pathetic performance in boxing history.
I recall watching Benitez vs Duran real time at home. A bit of a snoozer and I did literally fall asleep from mid rounds to finish. I’ve not actually ever watched that fight again since. Maybe my view was tainted at the time, I was probably hung over too, ..LOL.
This is an interesting pick. Just for Benitez's display of overall ability, I found it pretty interesting. Plus, I always root against Duran, so......
You didn't miss much with Reid vs Malinga, for some reason Reid decided not to fight at all and just give away his title to 40+ Malinga. Reid also had another eye sore vs Magee, despite scoring 3 knockdowns, Reid still arguably lost the fight. because he did virtually nothing outside of the knockdowns. Reid was certainly a strange fighter.
