http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=33901&cat=boxer Just saw this on boxrec. Arras vs Solano, fifth fight down I think. Fight rule a NC due to lack of combat. Anyone know if there's a story behind this? and what the rules are regarding lack of combat?
That's a new one for me. Makes me wonder about some of the debacles we've seen recently...but it really would take balls to call off a heavyweight title fight on those grounds :yep
theres a rule where the ref has the right to "throw you out" if you're absolutely not engaging, it takes a brave ref though not exactly the same but this actually happened on a henny card on ITV4 a few months back when that kid mcintosh was facing an opponent who had no interest in doing anything other then grappling and was "thrown out" much to the delight of everyone
Well thats completely different. If I recall it was Barney and he was DQ'd for holding constantly. For this to be ruled a NC neither must have been doing ****, its hard to imagine. Probably just a bloodthirsty Mexican ref.
I think the referee in the Chris Byrd v DaVarryl Williamson threatened to call the fight a No contest if neither of them were willing to fight. He definitely gave out to them and mentioned something about the fans paying good money. I've see a few NC's for this reason before while trawling through boxrec, but they've all been pretty much from 70 years ago or more.
From memory, I believe both Alan Minter and Ingo Johanneson were thrown out for not trying during their careers. In Minter's case, I think his opponent got binned too. I'd have to check.
It took the ref 8 rounds to come to that decision I think there's certain fights i seen where this should of happened by as mentioned above takes a strong ref. It's bad enough one man not wanting to fight but two is a joke and a disgrace. That basically what happened two guys weren't throwing shots and must of been leaning on each other and just not boxing or fighting and if that's the case i applaud the ref. They wanna go in there and rob people of there money by doing that then the ref's made the right call.
Holyfield (against Valuev) jogging on the spot in the other corner of the ring, for 12 rounds, seemed suspect to me.
Alan Minter v Jan Magdziarz in 1974, both fighters thrown out for not trying. Magdziarz had stopepd Minter twice the previous year. Interesting that Minter was in a bad spell at the time, but after that NC he went on a run that took him to the world title.
Nowhere near the same level but when an amateur bout in the Army got stopped because both were just looking to circle and pretend to box and wouldn't engage after several warnings. The crowd (500-600 soldiers) were going mental. Its ok though coz the fight afterwards was an absoulte bloodbath
haha i saw a girls fight like that i mean they didnt land 1 scoring shot and they let it go on then afew weeks later i saw another girls fight that was a mini Hagler vs Hearns.
That fight is on tape, it is a very weird ending. Harry Gibbs (the ref) just walks out the ring without saying a word....
