What fights were actually way different or closer or wider then the common thought appears to be? Example: Lot of people seem to think foreman was giving Ali hell gassed out and get ktfo, truth is Ali was beating him up with his handspeed and leading on the scorecards. Another one, valuev beat holyfield, you never hear anyone about it truth is holyfield should have been the oldest champ ever that night, he was robbed. what others do you have?
The obvious one is Castillo-Mayweather 1. The cards were an unjustifiable joke. Also, Jones-Griffin 1. Time has clouded the memories to the extent that many people think Griffin was dominating Jones, but in fact Jones was up on two of the cards at the time of the DQ. Another would be Nunn vs Toney. So many people talk of this fight as if Nunn won every round until Toney landed a 'Hail Mary', but I'm sure Toney had swept the last 3 rounds before the decisive punch, he had already turned the fight around.
A lot of people seem to think that the second and third Gatti v Ward fights were classics on par with the first. The truth is that both fights were decent and nothing compared to their first meeting.
But everyone still brings up the castillo fight a lot of times when mayweather is discussed so people know it was closer then it was on the cards.
:good Good call. (although I love all the drama of those fights, friendship ect..) The first fight was the only TRUE classic.
Ha, I'm probably going to get stomped on for saying this, but I would put Mayweather-De La Hoya in that category. Don't get me wrong, I think that Oscar was able to capitalise on some of the oddities of Mayweather's style and I wouldn't argue with the split decision, but I never felt it was an exposure of Floyd's weaknesses like a lot of people claimed. I've heard people talk as if Oscar taught him a lesson but to me, Floyd never really looked out of control and only showed that he can coast a bit sometimes.
I think a lot of people think Trinidad destroyed Vargas, but it was actually a pretty close fight and Trinidad may have just benefited from some well timed low blows...
No he didnt a lot of people had valuev up on the cards, remember valuev was actually more active then haye, he was just running and throwing a few punches per round. It could have easily been 8-4/7-5 valuev, he got robbed in that fight ironically in germany.
