What are some fights that, in your opinion, could have been stopped at a certain point completely without controversy and yet the guy who would have been stopped ended up coming back to win or at least tighten up the fight?

I think if the ref stops the first Gatti-Ward fight at the end of the ninth nobody could have called it an early stoppage - yet Gatti-Ward comes out and easily wins the tenth round like he was continuing after round 8.

Hernandez vs Cunningham I and II.

In the first bout Cunningham could have been declared out in the first and came back to almost beat Hernandez who had to play the "I can't see" part from a headbutt cut to eek out a TD. Not many people would have complained at a 1st round stoppage, and some actually say it actually should have been no matter what happened next.
In the second bout Cunnningham was almost completely gone in the 4th and a simular scenario followed with USS coming back and being the better man down the stretch, but losing the decision.

Pac-Marquez 1. Oh how different pac's history could be if that fight ended as a Round 1 TKO

Would have been a bad stoppage. Dont care if Marquez went down 3 times, he was never hurt in neither of the knockdowns.

Now I see the name The_Destroyer I suddenly thought about Nigel Benn vs McClellan.

That could have been over in round 1 too, and we all know what happened in that fight.
But I'm still not clear if the 20 seconds when being knocked out of the ring was actually in effect at the time. Cause if it was, all the fuzz about it would be a mute point because of the rules. Like in the well known Bute fight where he looked to be saved by the ref but in reality would have been saved by the rules that were in effect anyway.

    Froch-Groves 1, kinda.

Stopping it in round 1 would have been bad but the actual stoppage in round 9 was actually worse in my opinion. Froch was badly hurt in that fight but came back for the win.

If you count everything that "could have been a British stoppage" then we're in for a very long thread :D
But I slightly agree with this one :good

Right. Firstly, Marquez was BADLY hurt so I don't know where he wasn't hurt comes from. First KD was a punch flush on the chin that knocked him right down without any balance issues whatsoever. Before the second KD, Marquez is visibly wobbled by a right hook before being sent down. On the ground you can see Marquez has his mouth wide open and a look of concern because he IS hurt. Third KD, Marquez had NO legs. He was barely touched and went sprawling down discombobulated enough to get tangled up in the ropes and barely even know it.

Pacquiao lands one more punch while Marquez is in the ropes before the ref calls the knockdown and Marquez is also badly shaken up by that blow as he lays his head back on the canvas and holds his hand over his face as if he doesn't know what hit him or if he even wants to get hit again. This is where the fight could be stopped to NO c ontroversey. The image seen at the time of the stoppage - if the fight is stopped - is a badly dazed Marquez laying sprawled out on the canvas with one hand over his face like he doesn't even want to continue. Nobody would call that a bad stoppage.
