Who was saved/went on/won when the odds were against them with regards to cuts ? Which fight or cutman stood out ? Thanks
I did yes.........horrific cut. Mick Williamsons work with Johnny Armour was pretty full on back in the day. Was wondering also when the role came into play in boxing.......not being a trainer that can do cuts kinda thing....
Stitch Duran keeping a bleeder like Marquez in there all 12 rounds against Mullings. The guy had swelling and cuts to the tune of like 70 stitches and made it to the end. Another one has to be freddie Brown keeping Vito in that Hagler fight. he had well over 50 stitches and came into that 15 round bout with real bad eyebrows. Fritz Zdunek keeping Michalczewski in there with those horrific cuts over both eyes in that Hall rematch. He was as busted up as anyone ever 2 minutes into the fight and manage to go another 10 rounds. And that's 10 rounds with his style and winning the fight. Angie Dundee's job on Basilio in that SRR bout where that eye is the size of a baseball. Like the fight above, how hard is it keeping a guy with Carmen's style in a fight against a Robinson--who was an alltime great exploiter.
Cheers Bill and Zad..........i have not seen any of the fights you mentioned though i will see what i can source. I remember Brown saying that so many ex fighters look so bad as they used to use a tobacco mix or something similar and it set like concrete regarding cuts..........then it was cut out after or however it was repaired/healed. Anyways :good
