McCallum had the capabilities to go toe-to-toe with any of the Fab 5, and Duran was naturally the weakest of them.
Yeah, I think McCallum would've proved too big and too strong and would discourage Duran and win on points
If the 1983 Duran (Hagler fight) who was around 157:huh, was in with Mccallum, id take Duran, because he looked comfortable at that weight, and Roberto has faced much stronger competition, and would have been in Mccallums grill all night long.. Mike was a damn good fighter, i just think Duran was slightly better..:deal
I think McCallum grinds out a UD. This isn't Davey Moore we're talking about, and as good as Duran was, this is far above his best fighting weight.
I loved Duran he is without doubt my AT favourite fighter. But the bodysnatcher? Ooooh no missus. Mike was just too good for him.
If this fight happened in 1984, say if Duran fought McCallum instead of Hearns, I think McCallum would have won by decision.
McCallum was Duran's mandatory in 1984, but Duran was stripped of his belt when he choose to face Hearns instead. Don't think Duran was afraid of Mike in any way, just that a fight with Hearns offered much more money and Duran seemed to feel pretty confident that he could do to Hearns what Leonard did. As for McCallum and Duran, I think Mike would win that on points without too much fuss. Roberto was too small and had lost too much speed at that point to beat McCallum.
