I think the punch Simon Brown sparked Norris with was clearly to the back of the head / neck, albeit not a deliberate foul and Norris was ducking low. But by the letter of the law Norris could have been handed a DQ win.
Eusebio Pedroza vs. Johnny Aba could easily have been a DQ win for Aba. The video on Youtube of it is low quality, but it certainly looks a lot like Pedroza kind of threw Aba out of the ring, which ended the fight.
I frothed like a wild animal watching that fight the first time. I loved seeing Sal handle Gomez after the fact.
I can understand that. In front of the Puerto Rican crowd it didn’t help that a likely intimidated ref Harry Gibbs also lost control. Zarate claimed to be sick with the flu leading in but wasn’t allowed to postpone. - It took Gomez 2 times to make weight but it took Zarate a worrisome 4 times. Sal did a real number on Gomez but maintained his conduct perfectly throughout the fight.
Derrick Gainer-Freddie Norwood The ref was completely incompetent. Norwood should have been DQ’d for the many many blatant fouls he committed. Gainer retaliated with a couple low blows, dropping Norwood. For some reason, the ref gave him a 20 count. He apparently mixed up the 20 count when a fighter gets ejected from the ring…with a low blow, when a fighter gets 5 minutes. The thing is, the ref didn’t say it was a foul, he said it was “very close to a foul”. If it’s not a foul, then it’s a knockdown, and should be a regular 10 count. Gainer was announced as the winner because “the fighter must make an attempt to get up by the count of 10”, even though the ref kept counting way past 10. Gainer deserved the win, Norwood should have been DQ’d long before that, but what a mess. The official ruling is gainer TKO 10 Norwood This content is protected
