I don't think Michael Buffer ever got to announce the Bowe-Golota I result as the poor man was hiding under the ring during all of the pandemonium in the ring. Any other examples of the ring announcer not getting to announce the result?
I'm sure there were a few at the Olympic Auditorium over the years. When the fans liked a fight, they threw coins into the ring; Jimmy Lennon Sr had dozens of scars on his head from getting hit with them. When they were unhappy they threw bottles and cups of urine. And they threw M80s around just on general principles.
I think Jimmy Lennon Jr. bailed before he announced the winner of Tyson-Holyfield II. Both Tyson and Holyfield were long gone by the time order was restored.
I believe Jack Johnson vs Tommy Burns did not get a public announcement to the crowd and definitely not on film cause the Police actually demanded the footage to stop being recorded because of the racial implications "we can't film this black guy beating this white champion, it makes us whites look bad!" type thing. I think the same could be said for Johnson vs Jefferies as well cause of the crowd and the uproar it would have caused.
I think the projectile~like beer bottles and cans flying into the ring was as clear an indication of the fight result as any verdict reading by an announcer that night, Fergy.
Olivares vs Kotey had the following occur at the Forum... "David Kotey of Ghana won a split decision and the WBC featherweight championship from Mexico's Ruben Olivares in a fight with a riotous ending at the Forum Saturday night. The crowd of 8,000 was largely pro-Olivares and erupted with a bottle-and-chair-throwing demonstration when it was obvious Kotey had won even though the decision never was formally announced in the ring. Kotey knocked Olivares down with a left hook in the 1st round and the Mexican suffered a cut over his left eye from a butt in the 12th round of a battle that went the full 15. Scored under the 10 point must system, the fight was so close that only one point separated the two fighters on each of the cards." -Pasadena Star-News i wanna say there was a second Olivares fight with pretty much the same outcome but I am not certain
This is not true. Johnson was announced as the winner by Hugh McIntosh and the entire fight was filmed. Its myth that the cameras were cut off to avoid showing a black man beating a white man. Its very easy to find descriptions of the film from all over the world as it played in theaters detailing that it did indeed show the ending of the fight, post fights scenes, and even the fighters collecting their checks afterwards. Johnson-Jeffries was filmed in its entirety as well and still exists to this day. There wasnt much need for an announcement because Jeffries was knocked out and an announcement wouldnt have been able to be rendered anyway because the ring filled up with people who were packed like sardines in it afterwards.
First clip shows some of the rioting that occurred post-fight. the second video starts at the end and demonstrates the way this particular channel went about telling us the winner. It is rather funny and low tech, and VERY much in line with how Mexican tv/media often looks: trying to look as professional as possible with a $5.00 budget This content is protected This content is protected
