For Louis everyone goes with the Marciano fight. I disagree. He sustained damage but he was competitive throughout the bout and took the hits with poise. Only in the 8th did the punches really have an effect on him as his legs were begining to give. The knockout was a mix of exhaustion and concussion but given how quickly Louis came to after the knockout, he wasn't hurt that badly. Other than swelling the next day, Louis' face was otherwise unmarked. The one fight that never should have happened is the Charles fight. Louis came in unconditioned, looked much worse than he did against Marciano and he moved slower which, as the fight progressed, made him a punching bag for Charles. Here's an album showing the worst moments from the fight, the damage inflicted on Louis in the Marciano fight pales compared to this https://imgur.com/a/rhCqIai This by the way is also Louis' best showing of durability and chin. Those last five rounds were brutal, and with his stamina gone, his nose filled with claret and his eye punched shut, the only thing keeping Louis up was his innate heart and durability, against a guy who is one of the best pound for pound boxer punchers of all time.
