Concepcion lost to Luevano and to Juan Manuel Roberto Garcia lost to Margarito Vanes got his gift against Kassim What other fights had you thinking that Roach is not that great of a trainer?
The DLH gameplan that worked until the jab disappeared actually impressed me in terms of his intelligence. A trainer takes a lot of responsibility for performance, but he's not the one in the ring.
Roach didn't train concepcion for the Juanma fight. Atleast he wasn't in his corner for that one. I remember being surprised not seeing him.
Morales W12 Pacquiao Marquez `L12` Pacquiao Calzaghe W12 Hopkins Mayweather W12 DLH Mayweather W12 Pacquiao Spring to mind first.
Things that got me thinking he's not a great a trainer: A few of his fighters have tested positive for steroids. The shining example is James Toney, which upon the news being broken, Roach said something extremely close to "we didn't think the steroids would still be in his system by fight night." So when this scumbag tried saying 9 months ago about "I don't know what a steroid looks like or what it does," I lose all respect for him. Freddie Roach = Grima Wormtongue
This. But that doesn't mean he's not that great of a trainer to me. You can be the best trainer and your fighter decides do his own thing in the ring or cannot execute the gameplan. I think Freddy is a great trainer.
Most people overlook this because he trains the golden child now. That effects my outlook on him as a trainer far more than his fighters losing some fights.
