Fights which completely changed the trajectory of a fighter's career for the worse.

The one fresh in my mind due to a recent rewatch is Bute-Froch, Bute was a very talented fighter and the favorite going in the fight but Froch completely annihilated him and since then his confidence was never the same and he lost to guys much less talented than him.

Plus his left uppercut to the body was a killer shot.

    Let's discuss.

Mexican zone, Julio Cesar Chavez KO Meldrick Taylor with two seconds to go
Puerto Rico's Tito Trinidad with that guillotine left hook, shattering any man that comes across it often.
That was until he met the veteran Executioner Hopkins.
Fernando Vargas was running his mouth, that was before Oscar De La Hoya knocked him out.

Fighters who were never the same after winning:

    Corrales after beating Castillo
    Margarito after beating Cotto

Both winners took a hell of a lot of punishment in those fights and were never the same.

Also, both Morales and Barrera started showing some signs of deterioration after their first fight.

Tito shortened Vargas' career big time
RIgo had a good hand in stopping the Donaire freight train
Vernon Forrest took Shane Mosely's confidence and heart
Maidana stopped the Ortiz hype train

Moseley bounced back pretty well and though he never looked the same and should have lost the ODLH fight that followed, he did pretty well and scalped some good names later on.

Donaire had a late resurgence too, so not exactly ruined.

    Rest are okay.

I don't know. SSM only beat one top level guy since his first fight w/ Oscar. That being Antonio Margarito, whom many don't consider as much. The rest of his wins were against lower ten-ish contenders and a shot Vargas and Mayorga.

Moseley was ancient by the time he beat Margarito and acquitted himself pretty well in all the fights he had so all things considered, not exactly ruined.

Well...1 big win in ten years is what it really accounts to. POst Vernon Forrest, Shane was simplt not the same. Gun shy and too timid. And it killed me to see him fighting like that. Was a huge SSM fan, until the BALCO stuff came out.

That was quite nasty and unnecessary the way Mercer unloaded on a unconscious Morrison .
