Vitali took his lucky win over Charr and ran off into retirement. Arabian bombs will ruin a fighter, Vit got Charred.

I agree that he took a horrible beating, and that it shortened his career at the elite level. I just don't see a big difference in the outcome of his career in that he would still have been more of a "shooting star" than someone with real longevity. Too much talent around him.

I also don't think he really could help taking the punishment against Chavez. Even though he was winning by outlanding him, he was taking a slow beating, and it wasn't just when Taylor was spending a lot of time brawling. Taylor was already looking all messed up by the 9th, and it was really the 10th round where Taylor brawled a lot. That was a great, great round BTW.

Even early on in the 2nd, when Taylor was boxing and using more movement, Chavez was getting to him. He landed this beautiful right hand over Taylor's jab and then a left hook, and I think that left hook re-opened a cut inside Taylor's mouth.

Yeah they may have just been cashing out on him because of the eye issues.

A similar thing has been said about Nando and his team worried he'd self destruct. Remember he had beaten a guy with a golf club or something like that.

    Ibeabuchi vs Tua

It's almost chilling now that I think about how he said he saw demons and evil spirits only he could see after the fight.
I dunno if he was looney before the bout of what. But It killed the career what could have possibly been another Heavyweight great of the 90s.

I think it was basically just a long career of taking a lot of punishment and a tough, high activity fighting style that caught up to Plasterito. Even before Cotto, I remember some talk about him already being on the decline, certainly lookng slower in 2007-08 than he did in 2002-03 when he fought Antonio Diaz. Plasterito's defense has never been good, although he did a half decent job at blocking a lot of Williams's shots and rolling with some of the Cotto punches I think he actually took more bombs from Cintron, he walked into more of them.

I think Duva and Team Taylor shamelessly cashed out on Meldrick against Terry Norris. They probably figured they might as well get a bigger fight as Taylor's ability was declining. I agree about Taylor looking good against Aaron Davis. Chavez simply sped up an inevitable decline and short stay at the top for Taylor.
