Seriously..Roberto Duran should have been denied the chance to fight champion Davey Moore for the title? Because Moore.. the champion..."wasn't good enough"? An inferior champion is supposed to be roadkill for a superior challenger....that's the way the ball bounces.

Tex had a pair of split decision losses to Dokes and Norton, but he preceded those with his stoppage of Shavers, and rebounded from those two defeats by outpointing Mercado over ten. His next defeat would be a majority decision at the hands of a young Buster Douglas. At that particular moment of Larry's career, very few heavyweights could have been competitive with him, and only Witherspoon came very close on the scorecards before his reign ended. (Williams was taxing, but I agreed with the two judges who scored that one 146-139.) Holmes was the only heavyweight who could dominate Tex like that at the time. Where I'm concerned, Cobb was a reasonable challenger, and this event was only criticized in retrospect, due primarily to Cosell's selfishly motivated bombast. (He was upset that Holmes-Cobb lasted as long as it did, because that prevented him from catching an early flight to spend Thanksgiving with his wife.)

Mart Servo should NEVER have been matched in an OTWeight fight with the larger Rocky Graziano. Servo gave Young Ray Robinson hell in two disputed decision losses to Ray..That in itself speaks for how bright a future Servo had as a elterweight, but Al Weil
his mgr,put him in against the young savage puncher Rocky Graziano, who severely
damaged Servo's nose, causing his retirement...Rocky was heavier than Servo, and thatvfight made no sense...Later on Al Weil guided rocky Marciano to the heavyweight
    title...

I disagree with you although Chavez was past his prime he was still a good fighter and beating guys. Many thought hed beat ODLH and this was a legitimate big fight. Actually i won money from many different people on this one, lot of people were thinking the Experienced warrior would beat the Hot shot kid. The way it ended in the 4th made it look like a mismatch but Chavez never had a chance to get going, he still would have lost but if not for the cut he would have made a go of it.

This one instantly popped into the head. A terrible rematch.

Not only is Jones 7 years removed from his world class tenure, but he lost his previous bout in the first round against a man he would have hung, drawn and quartered in his day.

    Awful decision by Hopkins.

    box101 covered it:thumbsup

    i definitely agree with holmes-ali and joppy-duran.

ali, holmes and duran have had careers that are so long that i use their resumes as short cuts to fighters of the 60's and 70's in boxrec. :admin

ali's i short cut from holmes

duran's i short cut from joppy
