Don Steele vs Ray Mercer I remember it because it was one fight on television that I actually enjoyed between two heavyweights. It renewed my interest in boxing, because at the time I hadn't followed it in so long and was working construction, so I was pretty busy. Steele, I think, was undefeated or had only one loss, but made claims that he hit as hard as Mercer. Mercer, on the other hand, was on the come back trail, but had limited success. It went well for a few rounds, until Mercer suddenly got the upperhand, and knocked Steele through the ropes and won on a TKO. It was the second time in a row that Mercer had done this feat. During the post fight interviews, Mercer was asked if Steele hit hard, and Mercer was quick to say that Steele didn't and that his chin proved not to be as good as his either. Steele's name was tougher than he was evidentially.
lennox lewis vs hasim rahman 1 it was the first fight i watched and was happy as larry when LL got ko'd.i dont know why i dislike british fighters,its subconsious.i actually like LL now.
Fight that sticks out in my mind was Neil Malpass vs Bruce Grandham at Liverpool Stadium 1981. I was sitting ringside with my dad looking up at these 2 heavies in the ring. I remember saying **** me I wouldn't fancy one of them 2 landing on us. Sure enough 2nd round after being hurt Malpass started flailing away, it wasn't pretty, looked like one of those rugby players having a fight. He caught Grandham with one of these haymakers and he was through the ropes and landed on us. I've been trying a get a recording of this fight so if anyone's got it let me know. I'm the young lad in the blue t shirt.
Yes, that was a great performance, remember watching it on World of Sport Saturday afternoon. 2 others that stood out were Arguello vs Escalera 2 and Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson 2. Another one just come to mind was Eddie Gregory's destruction of Marvin Johnson.
It's funny because I was just about to mention Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson I. Both fights were great but there was something special about this fight in my opinion. Only the NABF title was on the line yet the two of them fought as if their lives were.
This was a great fight but I only saw it recently for the first time whereas the others I saw at the time as live( not knowing the result}
Sibson vs Minter, listening to it on the radio in my bedroom with my big bro. He loved Minter and we were both supporting him (but secretly I was rooting for Sibbo). :hey
