There are a few, but sometimes a fight that was a mismatch or easy on paper because the other fighter was unknown or unproven or maybe had bad early carrer. But when a proven elite fighter manage to get those suposed tune ups turn out to be a pretty hard fight with other fighter showing skills. The first fight that is in my mind was Ricardo Torres vs Miguel Cotto. Damm that was a heck of a fight, but pre fight the fight was hightly critizised because Torres was an unknown bum. But turns out that was a great fighter. The other case was Danny Garcia vs Herrera another mistmach on paper because of Herrera losess and was cataloged to be a perenial contender, but turn out to be a top fighter in the division and manage to give garcia another hard fight. What other fights do you people remember to be like that? Cotto vs Mallignaggi?

    Leonard Hagler

Even a shot Hagler was supposed to murder Ray

No one gave him a hope, there was serious safety concerns going in

    Maidana/Garcia vs morales

    What a fighter, what courage

At least those fighters where known and someone at leaast give him a chance. Cotto vs Torres was on paper a complete mismatch just like Garcia vs herrera.

Terry Norris vs Troy Waters. The Australian was brought in to be slaughtered by Norris. The fight turned out to be one of the craziest wars of all time before it was stopped before the 4th round. Up there with Hagler/Hearns.

Three recent examples that I thought would be competitve that no one else did is Matthysse/Molina Stevenson/Fonfara and Provo/Algieri.

People tend to write the unknown competitors off a little too easily, making the fights seem like more of an upset than they are. Herrera was a nightmare for Garcia, should have been easy to figure out, had any of the fanboys of Garcia knew anything about Herrera.

I got to go with morales maidana, there's been other mismatches, but this one sticks out to me because morales was so shop worn and looked like a corpse in there. I have no clue how that fight was competitive or why the hell I paid 60 bucks for it but it was one of the best fights ive seen in the last five years.

I think Morales was rouded for that fight and for the first garcia one two. He looked great in those fights. But if you looked a few fights back He loooked shot to ****. Then He got cought cheating in the rematch with garcia and looked like ****.

He might have been juicing but he still looked like a corpse, remember how slow he looked? Haha especially in the first round I thought maidana was going to kill him. Testament to what great fighter he was.

I convinced myself Morales would do really good, but that was based on hope more than reality, so when my hope turned to reality I was incredibly pleased.
