There are a lot of praise for Kostya Tszyu being the king of 140 from his rampaged fans and some boxing experts but really his proudest victory was against a green prospect of Zab Judah and Vegas laid Kostya the underdog.... Now it seems everyone is kicking Judah's ass in his prime. How are we suppose to measure Kostya's true greatness (other than the heavy right hand)?

    Who would have won?

Oscar De La Hoya vs Kostya Tszyu

    Shane Mosely vs Kostya Tszyu

    Floyd Jr. vs Kostya Tsyzu

    Ike Quartey vs Kostya Tsyzu

    Corey Spinks vs Kostya Tsyzu

It's tough to call since guys like Ike and Spinks were welterweights. I think Tszyu could jump in weight and beat Spinks. Tszyu was always good at catching lefties with the straight right hand. I don't like Tszyu's chances against Ike. Tszyu would be a live underog against both Mosley and DLH, but I consider him an underdog nonetheless. I think Tszyu has a better chance at beating Shane, personally, than DLH.

I would pick Mayweather to beat Tszyu at 140, especially around the time period when the two could (SHOULD) have fought. Tszyu was older, slower, injury prone, not fighting often. He looked great against Mitchell, but there's a big difference between Mitchell and Mayweather.

hate to say cause I know I am going to sound like a KT hater which I am not but I think all of those guys beat Tzyu. Oscar and Shane by stoppage and the other ones by decision. I'd give him a chance against Spinks and Quartey though

Great reply! It just seems to me that whenever Kostya wins... he gets credit in two fold. I remember when Kostya fought Mitchell the first time... after he won... everyone thought he was the greatest or whatever. Same with Judah.

I say Ike Quartey will hurt Kostya. I had Ike over Oscar by one. He threw 1100 punches against Winky at 160 and beat Vernon Forrest imo. Ike is no joke. He would give Mosely a run for his money.

i think why kostya got that extra little something when it came to credit/praise was in the fashion of how he beat the guys in front of him. usually when top guys fight each other, there's a lot of struggle amd scary moments. nervous moments etc.

with kostya he simply went in (which pavlik reminds me a little bit of too) and round by round broke his man down. he never seemed to get worried, or let his opponent bully him. people said he was slow or this and that, but he usually got the job done and with nice ko's and such.
definately one of the best 140 pounders ever.

im a big fan. and the only thing that tarnishes his legacy for me is he never rematched with philips. hatton is understandable as the fella was semi retired and old by 140 pounder standards. i feel kosty would have won the rematch, as he really was an idiot in that fight not respecting philips power for 10 solid rounds before the accumilation caught up to him.

and he had ver sound technique, combined with power, and sneaky super speed when needed. (if he didn't have speed he would not have iced fast fighters like judah/mitchell).

and another thing. if i had to pick the best combination of tools for a great HOF fighter, it would be crushing power delivered via great sound boxing skills. non stop speed is great. freak reaction times are great. iron chin is great. but i really think guys like kostya, pavlik and wladimir have the best combination to dominate opponents.

speed and great reaction times like roy jones, or wild sluggers like mayorga, are fun to watch and awe inspiring, but those attributes are usually the first thing to go when fighters age (or in mayorgas case, their luck runs out when they meet a tough boxer). longevity is one of the biggest things about a great fighter, and power delivered via boxing skills is the best combo for that reason.

and that is why kostya is so good.

If Mosley laid of steroids - he would have lost. :)

Those all are entertaining fights, if they could have been made.

There are so many things wrong with that logic. Surely you realise this? Kostya destroyed Zab in 2 yet Mayweather took him 12. So therefore Kostya must be better going by your logic then?

You have Spinks beating Tszyu? You are seriously under rating him.

Yeah and Mike Tyson was ko'd by Danny Williams

The same Danny Williams who was tko'd by AUDLEY HARRISON.

It is a known fact that Phillips never produced a performance like the one against tszyu ever again.

    Buster douglas like performance..

i find it funny you think everyone is kicking Judahs ass now.

Didnt Judah stun Cotto twice bad and dint the same Judah take PBF 12 rounds and was winning the first 4 rounds. Didnt the same Judah beat Spinks at welterweight. yet everyone according to you is kicking his ass. The only real man to kick his ass was Tszyu.

    How can anyone say yes

    Dela Hoya beats Tszyu
    Mosley beats Tszyu
    PBF beats Tszyu
    Quartey beats Tszyu

When really you never know what will happen unless they have fought.
I know this much though Mosley did steriods so does that mean he is greater than Tszyu.

For all we know Tszyu may have won against every man but we will never know cause they never happened.

All i know he beat guys that other men fought more convincingly than what everyone else did.
