What are some fights that looked bad on paper but turned out much better than you thought they would? I'll start: Juan Manuel Lopez - Rogers Mtagwa I thought this would be a 3-4 round KO for Lopez (a journeyman with 12 losses on his record against a world class boxer-puncher) but it turned into a FOTY candidate Others?
First one that comes to mind for me is Taylor v Pavlik I. Taylor's fights leading up to that one had pretty much bored me rigid, so I wasn't expecting much. Turned out to be one of the fights of the year, in my opinion.
Arguello/Mancinni: On paper this should have been a 2 or 3 round blow out, but it turned out to be a classic.
For me a recent example is dirrel-abraham, I expected to watch andre dirrel run a marathon but he boxed beautifully
Erdei-Fragomeni recently, I doubt anybody expected that kind of a war with such drama. Then the erdei's wife crying after finall bell with her make up smeared all over the face. It was a thing of beauty which is underrated now imo. For me the 2nd best fight of last year just after Diaz-Marquez.
I meant to say fights. 1. Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales I 2. Alexis Arguello vs Aaron Pryor I 3. Jose Luis Castillo vs Diego Corrales I 4. Yaqui Lopez vs Saad Muhammad II 5. Roberto Duran vs Iran Barkley
Casamayor-Katsidis, I thought Casa was going to get retired in a dull, one-sided fight. What we got was a barn-stormer, with a classic Casa KO moment!
Also from last year Williams-Martinez was supposed to be an easy night for the punisher , as ppl didnt really Rate Martinez at that time.
