Fury-Wilder should have been the final statement between the two of these guy. Really, Wilder didn't deserve a third shot at Fury. Fury-Wilder kinda reminded me of Patterson-Ingo 3, sloppy and unnecessary.

It was a pretty one-sided trilogy. Ward won 5 to 7 of the 30 rounds in the trilogy. 3-4 in the first fight, 0-1 in the second, 2 rounds in the third (one when Gatti broke his hand, the other on a late KD when he lost the first 2:55 of the round).

The first fight was a classic. Second fight was alright and third was good, but wouldn’t make my top 5 Gatti or top 5 Ward fights. Both of them were very entertaining fighters

Good shout on Ibeabuchi-Tua & a great shout on Ali-Frazier III. While I do enjoy it, it isn’t even the most entertaining fight of their trilogy, to hear it routinely called the greatest fight ever seen is lunacy. Both men’s skills & reflexes had noticeably eroded since the first encounter & it made for poorer viewing overall IMO.

To be fair, I’m not sure anyone overrates the entertainment factor of his fights do they?

I'm probably gonna catch some flack, but A LOT of Tyson's fights in my opinion are kind of boring. If you do not know the outcomes, they are SUPER exciting to watch, and I would have probably paid for them, had I been born.

But watching them now, it is mostly Mike lunging forward,Mike not knowing how to fight on the inside so the other guy or mike sometimes clinches, the ref breaking them up, then it continues til either the opponent gets knocked out, or Mike himself gets knocked out

I’m going to go there just like someone did back in May 2022, Foreman-Lyle. People act like that was some kind of seminal moment in the history of boxing. It wasn’t.

I have the September 1980 Boxing Illustrated and they scored it 8-7 for Leonard

Ive always felt Holmes-Norton and the Gatti-Ward trilogy were crazy overrated.

As a trilogy, Gatti-Ward, I’d agree. The first fight was definitely great though and rightly rated highly. Second and third were a considerable drop off and I think the romance of the first fight clouds people’s minds.

I’ll add De La Hoya-Quartey. It’s passed off as a classic war when in reality it was 10 tactical and slow rounds and two great rounds. The two rounds were awesome but it’s not a great fight.

I thought the first fight was only good when Gatti made it good and I thought he made it good in spots on purpose. He was easily the much better fighter (and thats a sad statement considering he was pretty average, exciting but average). I think Gatti was smart enough to know that this was being sold as some natural dynamite matchup and he played to the crowd. What a great way to extend his waning career as a punching bag. Whenever he elected to box the fight wasnt even close. To me it was kind of like my criticism of the Holmes-Norton fight. Exciting in spots when the more talented fighter decided to trade but mostly overrated.

Tyson v Holyfield I and II. I wasn't around at the time and learning about boxing after the fact it always confused me why these were the biggest fights of all time(the PPV records were broken without the bite). These were not lineal title fights and they were not the 2 best HWs.

I get the interest in Tyson coming back from prison I don't get the love for the matchup. I do not know how Holyfield lost the trilogy to Bowe and lost to Moorer(this is before the rematch) and got elevated above them not to mention Lennox Lewis. It feels like whenever Holyfield lost people almost ignored it.

I actually scored this fight for Leonard 143-142 the last time I scored it. I actually thought Leonard swept the final three rounds to steal it, on my card. Either way, we're in agreement that it's not a blowout or a clear Duran win by any means.

To be really honest, I actually think Corrales vs Castillo 1 is a little overrated. It catches fire at the end of the seventh and is wonderful from that point on, but in terms of consistent action from start to finish, I think I prefer Cotto vs Torres from the same year.
