I don't consider it a great fight (obviously). I consider it a great meeting of talents. A great event, regardless if the actual fight was a disappointment.

As for the rest of the post, stop pointing fingers and being a peckerhead. I'm not a big Lomo fan.

Lovely stuff. I remember it well. That was when boxing could still cross over into the public consciousness because it was on terrestrial TV. It was a major British sporting event and Ben and Eubank were on mainstream TV and chat shows such was the public recognition.

Jones v Hopkins managed to somehow disappoint twice by one being pre prime for Hopkins and before Jones had really settled into.superstar status. A fairly routine if still.impressive win for Jones Jnr wasn't seen as anything more than two very good prospects vying over a vacant alphabet title.

They would fight again 17 years later when Jones was pretty much shot and Hopkins was seen at a fairly low point of his career (before the Alien we t on another quality run) in what was seen as a bit of a farce of a fight.

They should have fought again around 2002/3 when both were seen as top P4P fighters, a real fight amongst superstars, they talked it up but it never happened. Such a shame.

    Fenech-Nelson in 1991 in Vegas.

Benn-McClellan in 1995 was tragic but exhilarating.

    DeLaHoya-Mosley was a big deal in 2000.

    Hopkins-Trinidad in 2001.

Not along the usual answers, but I was stunned Larry Holmes defended his title against Carl Williams on prime time TV. Better challenger than I figured Holmes would allow himself to get talked into and I remember watching it thinking it was a special gift to get to see it even if they screwed Williams out of the title with a raw decision.

Jones vs Toney was a big deal with the pair of them considered about the best P4P fighters on the planet from memory.

Spinks - Braxton/Qawi was an incredible matchup at the time.

Pryor - Arguello was a big thing.

Curry - McCrory was a nice match to get made.

The further back you go the more common the mouth watering matches i think. It's hard to tell what the exact anticipation and build up for some of them was tho. They certainly look amazing now. SRR had to have been involved in some pretty serious productions as well as Charles, Moore and co. Such a different era.

Spot on. The time when that fight was most meaningful and potentially competitive was 2002-2003. Not convinced it would ever have been that exciting to watch but at least we'd have known who was better then.

Another one was Dempsey v Carpentier. Though history hasn't be kind to Carpentier that fight was one of the biggest made at the time and was seen as a real fight between superstars m obviously Dempsey flattened him with a fair amount of ease and other such things have hampered Carpentier's legacy but he was a huge name back in the day according to reports.

Jones vs Toney is the only one I agree with from this last. Maybe Mosley vs DLH, although Mosley lacked the high profile to make this fight as big as it really should’ve been.

Great call on Casamayor vs Mayweather. Would’ve been a high speed chess match.
