THE ultimate, in my lifetime (apologies to you youngsters) is:
    Galindez-Conteh, Spring or Summer 1975.
    Forget their late-70's performances.
Victor's subsequent 'wars' took a major toll...
Conteh's subsequent hand injuries lessened his dominance...
In the wake of Foster's exit, they were THE class...
The crap-arse WBA/WBC infighting stopped it from happening...
My late friend and I wasted countless hours under self-medicaton  debating this scrap...
A Madison Square Garden May/June 1975 would have been a WAR!!!

It's unfortunate that it took Roberto Duran so long to actually unify the Lightweight division, considering he had the opportunity to do so several years before he eventually did.Unfortunately,he was hesitant to step in the same ring with "Gato" Gonzalez.

And had he unified the Lightweight titles earlier,it's possible that he wouldn't have been in such a rush to side-step the Junior Welterweight division like he did years later and waiting in sight would have been a very marketable fight with Antonio Cervantes.Unfortunately,Doo-ran never seemed eager to pursue that at the time, either.

    Thread Re-cap:

    1. Leonard is a charlatan
    2. Duran was ducked on several occasions
    3. Tyson vs. Bowe was the biggest heavyweigh fight to have never been made
    4. Tunney missed some grande opportunities
    5. Duckweather has disapointed us all
    6. Holmes vs. Foreman was a fight more of us knew we wanted to see but never clamoured for it
    and...
    7. There seems to be a great feeling that Norris was more than he was and should have gotten a fight with Trinidad...

That seems to have summed it all up!

Norris-Trinidad were actually signed to fight on the Tyson-Holyfield II undercard that got postponed from May '97 to June. Once the fight got pushed back, Norris-Trinidad got scratched. Norris then set his sights on De La Hoya and ended up losing to Keith Mullings.

After Mosley first beat De La Hoya, Trinidad would have been his next challenge. Tito couldn't even make 154 anymore and opted to join Don King's middleweight tournament and set his sights on Roy Jones Jr.

I think they would have split a couple of fights..Galindez and Conteh. both would have defeated Bernard hopkins IMO.

Jesus christ why wasnt Hatton Vs Cotto made at 140??? both were undefeated at that weight at the time..... I dont think i ever heard either camp ever mentioning each other

Cotto takes Hatton at 147, not sure about 140 though.....

Bowe and Tyson never fought because they were both from Brooklyn, Brownsville and decided mutually not to fight each other. ive heard that from a couple of sources including Bowe. Tyson has never ever mentioned Bowe at all though.

That would definitely have been a classic :good I'd take Conteh to win by a narrow decision.

This is pretty decent. Especially with the Leonard vs. Pryor. It's amazing how many persons give Sugar-Ray the praise but when they look at his record and see how much he has ducked around, we really should not be giving him the praise that has been heaped on him over the years that he was active.

I never knew that a DLH vs. Forrest fight was in discussions. I never wanted to see it quite frankly. I would have been more interested in a Trinidad vs. Forrest fight to be quite honest with you.

Also, I would not have been interested in seeing a Toney vs. Jones match at anytime before 2004 when Toney made a SERIOUS comeback. Toney at 165 was not man enough to handle RJJ... but a Toney at Cruiserweight or Heavyweight would have demolished Jones. But after the left the middleweight and supermiddleweight division interest in a re-match left with them. And to add to that a RJJ vs. Toney rematch less than three years after they had the first fight was unneccesary-- Jones whooped his arse. And would have whooped him again!

The Tyson/Bowe issue is something like the Klit Bro's pact to never fight each other. I think they bodies should make it mandatory that the Klit's fight each other or give up the belts... can you imagine David Haye having to fight the Klit's more than 4 times (6 if they have rubber matches?)....

As for Cotto vs. Hatton, from what I remember the talks didn't surface about a fight until we began to experience the out-of-the-ring ducking of Floyd Mayweather. The fight between Hatton and Cotto was supposed to be a lead up into a fight with Mayweather-- who won the fight got a shot at Money Mayweather. It didn't happen... Cotto was whooped by Margarito after Hatton jumped the gun and went for Mayweather afterwards.... prematurely I may add.

    Cheers!
