Fights where a combined total of 1000+ punches were thrown throughout

The first fighter I thought of on this subject matter was Zack Padilla, who would throw a blizzard of punches. I recalled his fight with Ray Olivera was said to have broken records. Looked it up on boxrec and it says they threw a combined 3,020 punches, which broke punchstat records. Amazing.

 

Jesus Soto Karras holds the record with 1800+ punches thrown in a fight his opponent threw 1500+ punches aswell.

Chris Arreola & Adam Kownacki both threw over 1000 punches and for Heavyweights of that size that's pretty unreal.

 

I believe Ray Olivera vs Sergei Artemiev falls into this category

Chavez-Taylor. Taylor threw almost 1200 punches, and LANDED close to 500. And, still lost.

 

That means he missed with about 700 punches? An Chavez has never a defensive wizard or a runner so how did Taylor manage to miss so many shots? No wonder he lost

 

My impression without watching the fight again was that Ali was holding too much to have thrown 1000 punches in the 1st Frazier fight. Could be wrong though

What kind of analysis is this? Taylor threw punches at an incredible rate, and landed over 40% of his punches. That is an above average connect rate for someone fighting a world class opponent. For example, Floyd Mayweather only landed 26% of his punches against Cotto (despite throwing half as many as Taylor did against Chavez). And, prime Chavez did have good, subtle defense. He got hit more at times based on his aggressive come-forward style. (Knowing that his iron chin could withstand the incoming fire)
