He was better for in the AJ fight almost reinvigorated due to his loss by Fury & was doing so well before letting off due to persevering his energy later on.
Thinking about it, it may have been more of a groin problem against Carr. I remember him talking about having a personal problem in the post fight interview with Merchant.
He always cried during his ring walks though, did it against Lewis 1, Holmes and Bruno a few fights earlier.
Cotto was shot anyway but he always got hurt more by handspeed than power. Probably didnt see the ounches coming anymore. Even tore his left bicep in the 7th round. Could have packed it in after that, was retiring and getting paid anyway. Not worth risking brain damage, but he kept trying anyway.
He sent hospital papers to Whyte at Whyte's request. You can get out in the hospital, locked up for a week, and still be out partying in the lay off of a fight. I think Povetkin is a family man who loved boxing. Maybe he drank on a couple of occasions before that fight, but if you saw his Instagram page and many interviews for a long time after the Whyte fight, he didn't want to retire, but he felt like he had to, due to responsibilities in his life. You could say it's marketing, but observe him after close fights and fights where he loses, he has a level of humility that most others don't have.
Very concerning as it seemed like his motor skills were scrambled. I haven't seen how he's looking since.
Yeah it was so strange. Felt like a fix. It was like a light sparring session Kovalev didn't throw any power shots all night (which is conpletely unlike him), just tipping tappy jabs. But seemed like he was winning in a boring fight, then suddenly he's knocked out of nowhere.
It is certainly possible that he had COVID, but three weeks out from the fight, suggests a camp without precautions. It was all a little too convenient. I say without precautions because I caught COVID myself, but that was from being sat next to a clearly sick bloke for a 14-hour flight, and I had been around infected people plenty of times in my workplace over the year or so before that. Him being off could have just as easily been his age: wear and tear catching up with him. He was already looking ripe for the taking against Hunter, and he took some heavy leather from Whyte in fight 1 including two KDs. Aging boxers not wanting to retire is pretty typical.
