What fights in your opinion may have yielded different results had one boxer not been cut? Especially in a fight where it was a head clash or something rather than a punch?

Lewis vs Vitali will get some responses I am sure but I feel Lewis was turning that around regardless, but everyone has thier own thought.

What fight do you feel like a cut altered the outcome

I just got done rewatching Linares vs Kevin Mitchell, and was super impressed by both guys but Mitchell’s toughness really shines. I am not sure he would have won this fight (but based upon the scorecards after 9 rounds it seems like he would have). He started slow but built momentum scored a KD and had a lead IMHO but the cut caused by a clash of heads turned this fight around. Linares takes control in rounds 8 & 9 but I think it was due more to Mitchell’s vision being impacted from the cut rather than superiority from Linares.

The ref stopped the fight possibly to late. I would like to have seen his eye checked out more during round 9, and possibly even stopped and sent to the cards.

I think Linares is the greater fighter, but also feel Mitchell was denied a chance to win this fight based upon the cut, and lack of vision caused by a head clash and then worsened by punches he couldn’t block or counter...a shame but a very enjoyable fight

Wow! I know he got cut early in the fight. I just think the outcome would have been one sided irrespective of the cut at this stage of JCC’s career

    I don't think so.

Chavez in his last round was turning up the pressure. De la Hoya never had the stamina to stay with Chavez in his prime, and although Chavez was past his best. I think he would have taken De la Hoya into deep water and drowned him.

    Its an unusual opinion .

Chavez was cut in the first minute of the first round, and he still came back strong, but it was bothering him immediately and that helped De la Hoya. Without the cut.. It would have been close, and I think Chavez would have taken him late.

Hagler vs Hearns. By threatening to stop the fight, the ref forced Hagler to end matters quickly.

Funny that I was just thinking this same thing. I still think Hagler wins this fight, but I don’t think he tries to end things as quickly if he is not in danger of being stopped himself.

Despite his granite chin, I have a hard time thinking that Hagler didn’t want to eliminate Hearns as quickly as possible, cut or no cut. Although Hearns isn’t remembered for his durability, Hagler would’ve been crazy to let him hang around longer than necessary. Anything can happen and I do recall Hearns very BRIEFLY stunned Hagler with a right hand in the opening round. Not only did this shot light a fire under Hagler, I think it also resulted in Hearns’s broken hand.

It’d be interesting to see how things would’ve played out if Tommy hadn’t tried to get under Hagler’s skin during the build up. It’d also be interesting to see what would’ve happened if he came out boxing like he did early in the first fight with SRL. Maybe he could’ve taken the early rounds and done just enough late, combined with lots of clinching, to hear the final bell and win a close 115 to 113 type decision.
