McGuigan v Cruz and Robinson v Maxim are famous examples

I remember seeing photos of a title fight in the Far East that took place during a downpour and the boxers (Carruthers and Songkitrat) had to fight barefoot.

It didn't affect the outcome but it was certainly an unusual incident.

I wouldn't say it didn't have an effect, but I also think Cruz deserves a lot of credit. Barry was expected to steamroll this replacement, and the very fact that Cruz was able to survive to the late rounds at all is a feather in his cap. He fought really well.

 

My comment was a little tongue in cheek.
It wasn't just the heat. Cruz did fight a good fight, a lot better than expected obviously.
I always suspected tho if the fight takes place in the UK or anywhere where its not as hot, then Bazza wins.

 

I never heard anyone say that the temperature had anything to do with this fight, but I remember it being said during the telecast that the temperature at ringside for the Floyd Patterson - Jimmy Elllis fight in Stockholm, Sweden was in the upper 30s on September 14, 1968.

UTTER NONSENSE. Weather makes a huge difference, especially when fighters from 2 different weight categories fight. Usually, the smaller man has to work more (to get inside and land), so of course hotter weather is gonna affect him more.
