I was adamant Cleverly would outbox Kovalev.

I thought they were pretty equal, skill wise. I still do.
    Kovalevs power made the difference.
Been a fan of his since.

    Good choice. :good

    Would also add:

    Corrales - Casamayor 2
Tyson - Tucker (Tyson's jab was tremendous in that fight)

Sturm (being a gifted boxer) is pretty prone to getting outbrawled by boxers with significantly less boxing abilities than him. He deals really poorly with aggression.

I think provodnikov won agsinst Herrera, bradley, and Algieri...all great "boxers." He didn't get the nod in them but they were all razor close. There's this stupid misconception nowadays that "brawlers" are inferior to "boxers" and it's annoying. It's all about styles and how they match up. You call fighters "cavemen" like they are stupid inferior athletes but they are on the big stage. All these guys whether boxer or brawler are fighters by definition. Seems a lot of the guys being praised are guys who win fights by doing as little actual fighting as possible and guys who win fights by fighting are insulted and called one dimensional cavemen. Call maidana inferior or caveman or one dimensional...he just fought floyd twice. The stage doesn't get any bigger than that. I can tell u exactly why these "fans" are trending towards "boxers" nowadays is becuz the top guy is a "boxer." Floyd has by far the most casual boxing fans I've ever seen. 90% of guys I run into out n about at work whatever can't talk boxing, they can only talk floyd, or guys that floyd has fought and their knowledge of his opponents goes no further than their fight with floyd. When Tyson was tops it was all about knock outs. I appreciate both styles and the huge gray area in between. I wish all "fans" could. I lean towards sluggers a bit cuz let's face it...that's fun!!! But I love boxing and get into any fight that's fought at a high level of skill. To say guys like maidana and provodnikov aren't skilled is just goofy. Especially kovalev...so many wrote him off as a dumb slugger...the guy had over 200 amateur fights didn't he?? He's skilled. Simple as that. Just cuz it's not the same type of skill as floyd doesn't mean it's not skill. Being a superior "boxer" does not make one a superior boxer.

    This was my first thought.

I've seen people get butt hurt about it and claim that Mayorga didn't in fact outbox Forrest, but he did. Undeniably. And I like Forrest, a lot.

That is more of the brawler just straight out-brawling the boxer and overwhelming him with physicality, IMO - though I suppose Froch did some clever work early on, using the jab to good effect (not that it was a good jab, in fact that is the point - he kind of threw it away to disguise his intentions and land his power shots, which does count as using it effectively...)

Ok Canelo is not a brawler at all but I find it was really funny how he outboxed (barely) the pure boxer in Trout and send the 'black and slick' army whining for months.

from what I saw, he used his brawling to make boner pay, like what you somewhat mentioned in your bute-froch post. and boner took the fight lightly and under estimated chino.
