Juan Manuel Marquez v Manny Pacquiao II
James Toney v Sam Peter I
Pernell Whitaker v Oscar De La Hoya
Evander Holyfield v Riddick Bowe trilogy
    Thomas Hearns v Marvin Hagler
    Alexis Arguello v Aaron Pryor
    Zab Judah v Miguel Cotto
    Ricardo Torres v Miguel Cotto
    Chris Eubank v Carl Thompson

Brave performances can often enhance a fighter's reputation even in defeat. Agree? Disagree? Any other suggestions? Have u found a new respect for someone after seeing them lose a fight?

Shitali Quitschko got a lot of credit for showing heart and giving a tough fight but losing to an old, undertrained, inactive for a year version of Lummox Lewis.

Azumah Nelson had like 12 or 13 pro fights on his ledger, and on short notice, gave Salvador Sanchez one of his toughest bouts.

Ha ha, why are you mentioning it on here then as you clearly do NOT believe it should've enhanced his reputation?! Wrong thread amigo. I think both men fought brilliantly that night, in my eyes it enhanced both of them.

how about tony thompson against wlad? i thought he aquitted himself well and will get another couple paydays out of the deal, and possibly even another title shot eventually if he hangs around and plays his cards right.

    some others:
    de la hoya v. hopkins
    vasquez-marquez trilogy
    jirov-mesi
taylor-pavlik 1 and 2 (yeah he got knocked out in the first fight, but he put pavlik on the floor and just generally made a fight out of it, something which he hadnt done much since the winky fight)

Brittley should get credit for showing heart, just not to the extent that he got.

I mean, Oliver McCall BEAT a 28 year old Lewis. Ray Mercer went just about even with a prime Lewis. Hasim Rahman BEAT an undertrained Lewis.

Yet on the boards, it's always "my god, Vitali was winning on the cards when he lost!!!!!"

Marquez in both fights against Pacquiao
    DLH vs Mosley 1
    SRL vs Duran 1
    Mosley vs Cotto
    Quartey vs Hoya

I don't mean by this list that the looser should have won but more that the looser put on such a great performance that it made him look great even while loosing.

I agree with all of these, and appreciated the Tony Thompson gag.

    Really?

I thought Thompson gave up after a couple of rounds, didn't look interested at all and was looking for a way out from round 9 onwards with various falls and feigning of injuries. I won't go as far as saying it was pathetic, but it wasn't too far off. Not once did he let his hands go and look for the KO even though he knew he was miles behind on the card. He wasn't even interested in seeing the final bell.

EDIT: Unless of course you were being sarcastic, in which case, very funny.
