Naah, I don't think the Ottke fight was controversial. Some Ottke fights were, but not this one. Probably the Kiwanuka fight but I have to admit I haven't seen it. Neither the Silvio Branco fight, but there's one place in Europe where they are CONSTANTLY making controversial decision - not Germany but ITALY. I suppose Glen could've done anything and still lose and I suspect controversy vs. Branco. But I'm yet to watch that fight. I think the Sheika fight was controversial as well the Judah draw. All fights vs. Woods and both the Gonzalez and the Dawson fights were very close but I've scored all in favor of Johnson. I thought Tarver pulled off the first fight of the two but was a close fight. I've never seen the Harmon and the Sosa fights.
Ottke won that fight without a doubt. Ottke had close fights and had controversal wins (Brewer I and Reid), but he clearly beat Johnson.
"Clearly" is 2 points max? I thought Johnson won at least 2 of the Woods fights. His loss to Derrick Harmon was pretty legit, lopsided actually.
With clearly I mean that he won his rounds clearly. There is a difference between a close and a clear decision of 115-113. I had it 116-113 for Ottke.
I've read in a few places that he should have gotten the decision against Branco and you know what, I could see that happening even though I never saw their fight.
the new ESB trend--- Glen Johnson has been robbed in all of his losses. He's a brawler with leaky defense, great chin, w/o one punch power. Those types of fighters have a lot of close fights.
See, Johnson is susceptible to losing close fights because of his style. He's a plodder, who works, but doesn't seperate himself from other fighters. He wins fans because of his workrate and heart, and his "road warrior" status, but when you're coming in as the "opponent" you better seperate yourself clearly to pull off the victory. He doesn't tend to do this, he usually fights a tough fight, but he rarely outclasses his foe.
