Fights Where The Tailor-Made Fighter Won

If we’re talking about fighters changing their styles on the night, then Tommy Morrison was fully expected to walk straight into George Foremans punches. While both were known as big punchers, Foreman had shown the better chin and the smart money was on Tommy getting caught.
The promo poster had a picture of a both fighters and simply said “Styles”. No-one expected Tommy to turn the whole thing by boxing on the move for 12 rounds.
In terms of fighters sticking with their usual style and still winning against expectations, I agree with Barkley beating Hearns, twice, as a good one.
I also expected Fenech to get dissected by Azumah Nelson in the first fight…basically a pressure fighter without a great defense up against a hard hitting counterpuncher.

 

Most of these fights are guys appearing to be taylor made but actually having certain tricks up their sleeve or technical nuances that actually make the matchup different than imagined on paper.

If a fighter is truly taylor made his only hope is the other guy folding under pressure, gassing out, getting injured or a hail mary KO.

That would have been the outcome if Floyd only had a set & fought Margarito whan the fans were all calling for it.

I'm sure he'd have done what he did with Akinwande against Lewis . When he asked Akinwande " Do you want to fight or dance with him Henry"?
Alikwande was terrified of Lennox like Floyd obviously was of Margarito. Mills just said " OK Fred Astaire youre outta here " & DQ'd Akinwande. It was a shame really Floyd was born with all the skills a champion needed BUT he was cursed by not receiving the Heart & cojones that a real champion needed more

 

Barrera did not change his style for Hamed. Before he fought Hamed, he fought Jesus Salud, utilizing the same style he would later use against Hamed.

 

Leon Spinks Ali I , On paper Spinks had no chance a come forward bad defensive fighter who didn't have the power to hurt Ali.
Problem was no one seemed to know how far Ali had fallen.

 

My opinion too.
Frazier had three strengths Ali had issues with.
A quick, accurate, and powerful left hook, better defensively than given credit for, especially for how aggressive he was, and motivated by personal grievance.

 

I eluld say Duran vs hagler. Had they never fought everyone would have said Hagler destroys him like Hearns did.
