I believe Merqui Sosa vs Prince Charles Williams was the fight where the ref stopped it because he couldn't stand any more and called it a no contest? That opened a bit of a debate as to whether a ref should do that to protect fighters because, at the end of the day, boxing is a fight and a referee should only stop a fight when one fighter is being outclassed or overpowered. In this instance, it was a very two-sided rock 'em, sock 'em affair. There was a great line written about the ref's reaction along the lines of 'there is a place in the world for revulsion at the sport of boxing, when it becomes two men violently beating each other as was the case in this fight. However, a referee is a strange man to feel that disgust and the ring an even stranger forum in which to feel it.' I love boxing writers. They have always been the best that sport can offer. Or boxing's primeval nature affords great writers opportunity to showcase their talents to the fullest more than any other sport can.
