Because of death threats made towards bot the Cooney and Holmes camps leading up to their fight snipers were put on the roofs of adjacent hotels and casino's in case of violence. What other fights had special precautions taken for them?

Lewis/Tyson, there were lots of bodyguards in the ring when they entered.

what a shame that some racist idiots could cause **** like that to happen. Even Louis- Schneling II didn't require any unusual security measures like that.

Surely one of the weirdest single events in the history of the sport

"The match attracted considerable attention. Over 100 journalists arrived in Ireland to cover it, and it was scheduled to take place in Dublin’s La Scala Theatre on 17 March 1923. But just as the Free State authorities sought to take political advantage of the high profile of the contest, the IRA was intent on disrupting it to illustrate to the world that it was still at war: both sides in the conflict had contrasting stakes in it. Added impetus was given by the execution of three republican prisoners in the week before the fight. The IRA decreed that no sporting events should take place as a mark of respect, and both fighters were escorted to the venue by Free State troops. There was even a bomb scare, but the fight went ahead: the last twenty-round world title fight ever staged."

the documentary was shown here on irish language channel TG4 and is one of the best documentaries i have seen on boxing.....if only i could find it again online to post a link

Sad but true, and he was still training fighters well after some of those precautions came to light.
