Sum Ali post Manilla fights are straight up embarassing and I refuse to watch anything post-Ernie Shavers (which I already found difficult to see), not to mention "The Last Hurrah" where Stallone's description about it was enough for my immagination. Same for Frazier, didn't watch vs Foreman II and that controversial draw yet and don't think I'll do. Also will never watch Cotto-Margacheatoh fight too since the loaded gloves ruined it for me and the latter is one of the most garbage human-beings to have joined boxing. If anything it has deeply enhanced my perception of the career-ending poetic justice he took from Manny in 2010. Last but not less important, Leonard career ended with Uno Mas for me lmao. Spoiler Oh and won't check anything like the exhibitions from Floyd or Manny returning tbh, they gave enough to boxing in my opinion by now and should just retire with their brain and neurological faculties intact.
Forgot (shot) Louis vs Marciano lmao, fights took when a boxer desperately needs money are some of the saddest to me. why this? I loved it based on the fact that NO ONE has ever sonned Duran like that, ever lmao.
Benn vs McClellan was the fight hat got me hooked on boxing, but no way could I watch it back knowing what became of McClellan. I loved Felix Trinidad and refuse to watch a second of the Hopkins loss. Anything with Sven Ottke involved.
Usually fights that ends with a tragic result. In this case: Ray Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim Emile Griffith vs Benny Paret 3 Gerald McClellan vs Nigel Benn Chris Eubank vs Michael Watson 2 Alberto Davila vs Kiko Bejines
I used have the same opinion until I found a high quality version of the fight. Louis surprisingly puts up a very good show against Rocky. He doesn't just get beaten around the ring. Between rounds 3-5 you even start to think he is going to wear Marciano down himself, he draws first blood with stinging jabs and Rocky has real trouble reaching him. It's sad in a sense that Louis bears little resemblance to what he once was but if you see it as a very skilled fighter against a brawler then you'll have a good time with it.
Ali-Holmes: so sad especially since he had gone out on such a high by beating Leon Spinks. Lloyd Honeyghan-Breland: again sad to see Honeyghan who had destroyed arguably the best fighter on the planet in Don Curry lose so badly. Barry McGuigan-Jim McDonnell: was gutted for McGuigan who I really wanted to see against Azumah Nelson (who would have destroyed him) and felt for him the way he lost the title in the stiffling heat and then his dad dying.
Kid Akeem vs Robert Quiroga is another fight that I've only watched once and never again after knowing what happened to both fighters. It was such a savage fight that Kid Akeem suffered the worst out of it, was vomiting blood, and died months later as a result from that fight. Quiroga also ended up getting stabbed to death in 2004.
I'm going to give a different answer than just tragedies in boxing. Nelson vs De Leon Byrd vs Williamson Never seen these fights and never will because of the reputation of them being the most boring fights in boxing history.
Griffith v. Paret III. I saw it live on the tube back in the day, and the picture sticks in my mind. I don't need to see it again. Also, I don't care to watch Gavilan-Bratton III. Johnny took a bad beating and he was totally shot in his next 3 fights after which he retired. His next fight was against Saxton and he had nothing left in the tank. The crowd booed him and the commission held up his pay for lack of trying when the truth, as I believe it, was that the brain damage he suffered in the Gavilan fight had left him less than a shell of his former self. The Saxton fight is heartbreaking for me to watch too because it is an example of how heartless boxing fans can be. But I guess it's too much to expect that fans in Philadelphia who saw the Saxton fight would connect Bratton's poor performance with the beating he took in Chicago three months earlier, although the Gavilan fight may have been on TV.
