There are many fights I haven't seen, but the only one I refuse to watch is Pintor/Owen. I've seen the knockout itself on a documentary, and it seemed that Owen was dead before he hit the canvas. I've seen Griffith-Paret 3, Mancini-Kim, Ramos-Moore, Akeem-Quiroga, Benn-McClellan, all the rest, but I still have memories of how different the Owen KO looked and felt. Nothing I care to see again.
Thing is, we all watch fights and hope for a knockout, don't we, sure we can appreciate a good boxer , but it's the KO we yearn for, if we are lucky, one fighter will connect good and hard on his opponent's chin, then he will fall, immobilised and unconscious maybe for seconds, or minutes, or maybe........
Lupe Pintor vs Johnny Owens. You just knew before Owens hit the canvas something horrible just happened, like the life had been snatched out of him.
There is very little evidence beyond the circumstantial accounts of Naazim Richardsons (himself a colourful character) to prove that Margarito actually used any plaster. Apart from the alleged use of loaded wraps (which have been largely disproven by now) I don't really know of what else he's done that's all that objectionable. If you don't wanna watch the fight because you're a Cotto fan that's fine but if you don't watch it because you think Margarito cheated then that's just denying yourself a great performance on the basis of a tall tale imo. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/was-antonio-margarito-innocent.632212/
Hi Buddy. I do, and have done for the best part of 55 years, are you implying my post suggests I don't ?
No, just the opposite I believe you do respect the boxers wish others would too, instead of calling fighters cowards and bums And just being disrespectful and Not acknowledging they put their health on the line Each and every time out.
Hi Buddy. Fair enough, I misunderstood, please accept my profound apologies, thanks for putting me straight. stay safe, chat soon.
Nice exchange, guys. On the subject of respect, I can't bear watching Dwight Qawi put such a sadistic beating on Leon Spinks. Leon was a lovely guy and there was something deeply unpleasant about the sneer on Qawi's face as he tormented him. He showed a total lack of respect for his opponent. He did it with Saad too. I was glad Evander utterly blasted him. Nor can I bear watching any of Hamed's fights, especially the Belcastro one where he is so sneering. This Ben Whitaker looks like he's cut from similar cloth. Not nice to see. All the tragic ones listed above are hard watches but I should watch Johnny Owen. He lived for boxing and that stand against Pintor was as brave a display as has ever been put on in a ring. We owe it to Johnny to watch him put his life on the line - literally. I just feel so mawkish about it.
Qawi didn't force Saad or Leon to fight. They got whooped, plain and simple. Qawi was the truth. Atleast he wasn't on steroids like Holyfield.
