Fights I saw live that ended with death or serious injury. Lupe Pintor / Johnny Owen Ray Mancini vs D. Kim Benn vs McCellean. Fights A great had no business in the ring and was completely past prime. Ali vs Holmes or Berbick ( Saw the Holmes fight live refused to watch Berbick) Leonard vs Norris,( Saw the Norris fight live , refused to watch Camacho) Benitez vs Hamsho Mugabi all his fights after Norris. Hearns All his fights after 1992.
Other than those resulting in deaths or horrible injuries, I saw Ali vs Holmes, once, and will not watch it again, nor will I watch any Ali fight after that one.
I don’t watch fights that end in tragedy a la ring deaths or permanent injury (or rewatch in cases where I saw them at the time). Billy Collins-Luis Resto would also be on this list of ‘nope’ fights. Never want to again see Foreman-Alex Stewart, where George got a sinus cavity caved in or something and his face swelled up so badly … it sounded like water sloshing around inside Foreman’s face every time he got hit, and it’s sickening. There are some super-boring 1980s heavyweight title fights for the non-Larry Holmes belt that I couldn’t make myself watch, Witherspoon-Tubbs being one of them. No wonder nobody took the Heavyweight Hot Potato era title claimants seriously — to a large degree they didn’t take themselves or their careers seriously enough to actually hold onto the belt for very long, and they often look in half-ass shape. Ali’s last two fights, which have been mentioned, because they’re too sad to watch. Same with Frazier-Jumbo Cummings.
Curious to read why you didn't watch these but yeah, Hearns definitely shouldn't have fought till' 06 smh
When Hearns gets outscored and loses a decision to a past prime Iran Barkley. Yeah it was easy to see, he was past it. Though he had wins after the fight, it was clear for me at least , he shouldn't be in a boxing ring anymore. And probably is the reason he barely can be understood today when he talks..... His legs were almost completely shot as early as the Roldan fight. ( He was fine as long as he was fighting offensively, but when forced backwards or side to side, it was a major problem) His height, reach, speed and power generally disguised his leg issues. Hearns was one of my favorites fighters, I grew up and old watching him. His career was too long.
Terry Norris-Meldrick Taylor. People say Chavez was the one who ruined Taylor but Taylor still won a title after the Chavez fight. After the Norris fight he was never the same
Benitez middleweight run, don't know who thought it was a good idea to perservere that, and refusin' myself to watch the Hamsho match fo' sho' smh
No doubt. I already feel bad for Benitez whenever I see him nowadays, so I'm not trying to see what caused some of that damage.
