In light of this evening's shock knockout of Crisitian Mijares, I thought it'd be fitting to discuss fights that have made an emotional impact on us. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that if you go into a fight really admiring and supporting a fighter, and he loses, that you would be effected.

    Barrera vs Pacquiao 1

Sometimes you just like the look of a fighter and other times, it's a style thing. I loved the look, the many styles, and the many attitudes of Marco Antonio Barrera. Ever since he defied the bookmakers odds by thoroughly outclassing Hamed, I was a fan for life. I followed his career from that point onwards, tuning in to watch him fight this kid called Manny Pacquiao. I expected business as usual, and thought I was going to get it after the initial knockdown. However, unbelievable Pacquiao started to batter Barrera, and would go on to score knockdowns and eventually get a stoppage. I respected Pacquiao for being capable, but I was mainly just really pissed off and somewhat upset that I just saw my favourite fighter lose, and in that manor. I counted the days until he made a comeback, and the third Morales fight was a great night for Boxing fans, and more specifically, Barrera.

    Amir Khan vs Bredis Prescott

I had always said after the Gomez fight that Amir Khan was build-up on hype, and would be knocked out the first step up in class. I was proved right when he faced the somewhat obscure Bredis Prescott and was stopped in the very first round. However, even though I was not a fan, a believer, or a supporter of Amir Khan, it still effected me to see this young kid get knocked out as brutally as he did. He talked **** leading up to the fight, but he's still a young kid, he'd got the expectation of the nation on his shoulders, and he gets starched before even stepping up to world class. It was devastating to see live, but the young man handled himself very well in the post fight conference. I wish him goodluck, but it looks rough down the stretch for Khan. You can't improve a chin.

    Cristian Mijares vs Vic Darchinynan

Becuase of the harsh nature of ESB, I expect to get a lot of stick for making this thread, but it's a fact - I was numb after tonights fight. You can go into the history folder, and check back at the last few months - I was not like Amsterdam and saying this and that about how great Crisitian Mijares was. I wasn't hyping him up to be this demigod, but I had acknowledged his skills from his fight with Navarro having seen him on the undercard for the first time. He just looked so slick, so mentally strong, and he won that fight easily. I suppose his coolness and his skillset made me a fan, and I was convinced he would make easy work of Vic tonight. Credit to the man for proving me and many Boxing experts wrong, but I'll remember tonight for the destruction of Mijares rather than the great performance of Vic. It was saddening and bizzare to see this performance come from Mijares. He had to resort to brawling with Vic at one point, and anybody who has seen Mijares fight before, will know that that isn't his style. Credit to Mijares for getting up after the initial knockdown - it was a heavy uppercut and I doubted he would even get up at one point. Vic did brillantly, throwing shots from awkward angles, and that telegraphed uppercut landed almost everytime..almost unbelievably. Still, I'm a fan of Mijares more than every now that he has lot in this manor. I hope he learns from his mistakes and doesn't get over confident in future bouts. I predict he'll return better than ever. That could either be a bold prediction or wishful thinking, depending on how everything pans out. Much like tonight, if Mijares had caught Vic with a shot he didn't see and was knocked out like against Donaire, the contrast in ESB would be frightening.

Fights that you will remember but not for positive reasons?

You must have seen it coming though. Morales was having weight problems, and everybody knew he was done after the Raheem fight. Even a half decent prime Morales beats Raheem.

Codrington vs Green ****ed my up for about a week. I was real high on Codrington and seen all of his fight before and you seen him sparked like that was disturbing to me.

Tito-Winky is the first one to come to mind then Morales-Pac 3.

Tito-Winky because Tito was made to look like a poor amateur by Winky Wright and pretty much killed Tito's desire for further greatness. Sad night indeed.

Morales-Pac 3 because Pac just brutalized Morales for 3 rounds. You knew it was coming but you'd hope it'd be quick and painless. This was 3 rounds of unadulterated ass whoopin.

BHop-Tito. I became a Trinidad fanatic since he made DLH dance. I was so confident Tito will become undisputed champ, I bet money and if Trinidad didn't win by KO consider the bet a draw...
