Anyone caught any decent fights from yester-year or the present that they enjoyed? I finally managed to get my hands on George Foreman v Alex Stewart 15 years or more after reading about it as a kid. It's a very fun Heavyweight fight. Also managed to catch Lennox Lewis' first defence of the WBC title that he was handed, against Tony Tucker. I'd never managed to see this fight either, one of the very few Heavyweight title fights of that era that had slipped by. Finished that off with the Floyd Patterson v Ingemar Johansson trilogy. I'd only seen the second fight previously and highlights or the others.
Really enjoyed that Luis Concepcion vs Hernan "Tyson" Marquez WBA Flyweight Title bout from a couple weeks back. Easily fight of the year so far.
Was sitting on a plane next to a guy that trained and sparred with Johansson. In his late 70's and still a big guy. Wealthy too. A loan shark to be exact. He was telling me stories of some of his "debt collecting" activities. He was actually on his way to one on that trip and beat the **** out of a guy that didnt pay. Imagine doing that in your late 70's....
Yeah that fight was a war. The only thing that compares to it as fight of the year is Morales-Maidana and I think thats just because I'm a Morales fan boy.
I watched some of Mundines old fights yesterday after chatting to him at the fight Wednesday....he always has some great stories and loves talking about old school boxing Mundine v Monzon Mundine v Briscoe Best quote from Tony...."if I was boxing now I would have 10 World titles...hahahah"
Watched Lennox Lewis v Phil Jackson this morning. Lennox was a lot more fun to watch before McCall starched him.
Got around to watching Victor Ortiz v Andre Berto... WOW. What a fight. Do yourself a favour if you've not yet seen it.
rewatched oscar siale vs dominic vea. ****ing brutal fight that probably could have been stopped at several points but im glad it wasnt, also watched danny green vs paul smallman, which was a fiery battle with both boys taking some leather. lastly, just watched pascal vs hopkins, i thought hopkins did enough to win but wasnt too unhappy with the draw
Green fought Smallman twice right? I was at the first one, I think Vic fought on the card too, somewhere back of Balmain. Anyway, in that first fight Green's knock out of Smallman was strange, in that Smallman seemed to lose concentration after a break (i think it was around the 8th round) and Green just rushed over and hit him in the side of the face as he stood with his arms down.
