Tonight I wake up 01:30, I look at my phone, Round 7, Hrgovic in trouble. I try to sleep, I look again. Hrgovic KO by Dubois.

I was wrong. Admins are tough on me here, baning on sight but man, feeling that one opportunity for you country to get that belt go down the drain. I will not post anymore, I go down with my boy Hrgovic.

Dubois was phenomenal, a different fighter. Hrgovic had no stamina at al. Is this how you prepare for belt. I am sad, but I am mad. Also that Hrgovic coach Ronnie Shields is a sham, went back into a rat hole, refusing to take any responsibility.

For Hrgovic there is two choices, both incredibly hard
    1. Retire
    2. Fight Alen Babić for the good of Croatian Boxing
    3. Try to Rebuild
To rebuild his career would be insane, he is not a name, nobody will fight him and he is still dangerous, but he can give back to community
    • Alen Babić
    • Tony Yoka
    • Arslanbek Makmudov
    • Joe Joyce
In that order, and maybe in 5-7 years he might snatch a belt. Unlikley.

Hrgovic can attempt to rebuild but unless he finds a new fire for the sport he's gonna get brutally stopped.

He slept on Dubois like an idiot and that can get you killed in boxing.

Bad game plan he thought he could take Dubios out early with the right hand. If he boxed behind a jab he probably could’ve stopped Dubois late.

He obviously does not want to put in the effort, and he doesn't have the talent to cruise on that. I hope he rebuilds, as the division can use everyone it can get, but he's got to want it.

Hrgovic was not prepared at all. No excuse to run out of gas halfway through the fight, in which he was winning. Totally embarrassing and he may be shot mentally from the loss. Either needs to get serious or retire.

He shot his load in the first 3 rounds, Dubois did a great job taking the big right hands and adjusting mid fight. Also His high pace paid dividends for him.

Hrgovic looked past the fight and got lazy. I'm not the biggest fan of his, but he can rebuild. No shame in losing his zero to Dubios who came to win and showed heart.

I just don’t think he is that guy.

He has looked like Špek fileki ever since he went from club fighters to fringe contenders. And his two best opponents have given him beatings.

Just seems to want opponents that fall over easily.

He never really grew as a fighter. Still seems in an am mindset of either just looking to score points or loading up to much. Can’t pace fights well, which is a big issue because he either doesn’t train for stamina or isn’t naturally inclined to be a endurance kind of athlete.

Problem Hrgovic had was he stagnated due to not facing decent opposition and that limited his progress as a pro. He was doing well up to the point he beat Mansour and Molina he was ahead of his 2016 Rio games peers in Yoka and Joyce at this stage but instead of stepping up the level of opposition he just feasted on journeymen and that gave him a false sense of progress.

Look at him in the amateurs looks at him in the pros he's the exact same fighter with the same exact flaws. His progression as a pro never allowed for him to face any kind of obstacles to overcome and improve his skills he was just treading water beating overmatched opposition. So when he did finally step up against Zhang he struggled badly but luckily for him Zhang is 60 tonne tank with the gas tank from a Nissan Micra, so he scraped by. Dubois unfortunately has a better gas tank and unlike Hrgovic has risen up the ranks the hard way, being thrown in with Joyce and Usyk and come out a better fighter for it.

Dubois learned from his defeats and even the tough fight against Lerena. Hrgovic simply never learned anything new. Never learned to move his head which allowed Dubois to tee off on him. Never improved his stamina which was questionable when he gassed badly when losing to Joyce. He did learn to ride out hard moments in the Zhang fight and maybe he would of done the same if allowed to continue but Dubois wasn't going to fade like Zhang did to give Hrgovic those moments to recover, so it's likely even without the cuts he was going to get stopped, because Dubois had clearly taken control of the fight.

I feel your pain bro. I’m from New Zealand and a fan of Parker, it’s been an up and down ride but it’s been worth it to see where he is now.
The lesson here is people need to stop calling unproven fighters the next big thing before they have even fought anyone.

I think you are being a little hard on yourself and on Hrgovic. You had every right to hype your guy. Also, at 31, he absolutely can learn a lesson and come back. Just don't hang so much on him because it is ultimately up to him if he wants it or not.

This is quietly a good, competitive division in which almost everyone outside of Usyk takes their losses and comes back. Hell, a lot of people wrote Dubois off after Joyce and Usyk...look where he's at now!

    POST SCRIPT
My impression of Hrgovic has always been a guy who thinks that he is way better than he is, and can just go in there and half-ass it. This could be just the wake up call he needs to get back in the gym and become that guy for real.

I think you are overlooking the Saudi´s here. They want their heavyweight fights and there are plenty of fights to be made.
Hrgovic is 31, he can take some time off and return at the end of the year. And he will still be highly ranked by the IBF, so it won´t take a lot to get yet another (undeserved) mandatory position.

Dubois came back from a hard loss, no reason Hrgovic can't also. He needs to sort out his cardio issues.
