Makes sense, I suppose. Low risk fight whilst he holds onto the mandatory position. Can also point to McKean being undefeated and having been linked as a potential Joshua opponent. Not exactly excited for it, but he is staying active which is a good thing. And in truth he would be foolish to do as both Whyte and Joyce did when they were next in line. However, as a boxing fan I'd prefer he was fighting someone in top 20 or even top 30.
Not a great opponent but like others have said it keeps him busy while maintaining his mandatory. Smart move really.
I saw that interview and it was hilarious how he wasn't sure who McKean was or how to pronounce his name. On another note, Hrgovic sounds very angry lately: This content is protected
Not a great choice, but better be active for every reason you can think of. If he makes changes to his game, he can test them in such fight - with the right ones, I still see him potentially one of the best, but it's his very last chance of improving.
Meh, nobody cares. But with Joyce choosing to rematch Zhang that limited his options. All the other guys like Fury, Joshua, Wilder, Ruiz and Usyk are all basically tied up with Fury fighting Ruiz, and the others looking to fight in Saudi later in the year with no plans to fight in the interim. He and Makhmudov should call each other out, nobody wants to fight either of them and both looked vulnerable lately so the other may think they are beatable, that's a fight that fans might care about, though the money wouldn't be great.
I was thinking about how currently he can hardly have some top 10 fight, but top 20 isn't that impossible. McKean is way behind that. Still, better to see some activity, if all the tops were more active even against fighters below their level, at some point, they'll be forced to face the other tops without much chance of procrastinating.
I was kind of hoping they were planning on matching Makhmudov with Anderson as they are co-mains on the same TR card. Wishful thinking I know
In his prime, hasn't fought for 9 months and fighting a barely top 50 guy is just a "possibility". Hrgovic needs new management.
New managment cant change that he is from Croatia, and his surname ends in "ić", no managmant will give him more boxing popularity. He needs to fight, at least 3 opponents in this year.
