Ancajas, Palicte, and Cabalquinto all won by KO on Saturday against stay-busy type of opponents. Would like to see them make a slight leap in the level of their competition, especially Cabalquinto.

Updated the top two posts (rankings/schedules). First time I've updated it since mid-2015. Crazy how the contenders and prospects rankings have changed but there are still some familiar names grinding away. Only prospect that panned out and became a world champ since then is Jerwin Ancajas. WELP

My fav Filipino prospect, Reymart Gaballo 16-0 (14 KOs). Obviously fighting bums in the highlight video but I like him.

Milan Melindo struggled to make weight in his upcoming first world title defense this Saturday against Hekkie Budler. He weighed in 1.75 lbs over in his first attempt but somehow managed to get to 108 lbs in just over an hour. The fight is on!

John Riel Casimero weighed in at 115 lbs while Jonas Sultan was just slightly under at 114.75 lbs for their IBF World Super Flyweight Title Eliminator. Winner becomes mandatory to Jerwin Ancajas.

Have there ever been any higher weight Filipino operators? Middleweight and above who fought at a decent level? I know generally Filipinos are smaller than East-Asians... In MMA there's the half-Filipino Brandon Vera who had a decent run at LHW-HW and really should have had a win over Randy Couture. Not aware of any Filipinos off the top of my head who competed at MW at a decent level... Recall seeing a bigger Filipino fight in Russia recently(the one who was badly robbed), but he may have just been a bigger Welterweight.

The highest weight any Filipino has won a world title at is Middleweight and that was Ceferino Garcia. Known for his draw with Henry Armstrong and popularizing the bolo punch.

The fighter who you're talking about is Al Rivera. He's at 140 lbs and is currently the fourth best prospect on my rankings. In recent times, aside for Manny, the only other fighter that had a decent career at welterweight or above is Dennis Laurente. Managed to be ranked in the top 10 at welterweight and I believe top 15 at 154 by the WBC until he got beat by John Jackson in 2015, ending his already bleak world title shot hopes.

    Updated top two opening posts.

My 10th fav prospect in KJ Cataraja won impressively again. I'd love to see him fight in a slight step-up in his upcoming fights.

Casimero looked very disappointing against Sultan. Sultan was extremely impressive and should provide a decent challenge to Jerwin Ancajas.

Pagara showed that he's nowhere near world-level. Scored two knockdowns against Onyango but really struggled mightily the second half of the fight to earn a split draw.

Have not watched the Melindo fight but from what I've read, it was a legit win, especially with the last round knockdown by Melindo. Happy that he showed a lot of heart against a very capable former champion in his first defense of his world title.
