    Chimba:

Gene Tunney was a fighter in the 1920s. He became world heavyweight champ in 1926, I think. He wasnt the greatest old school fighter, but he was slick and he was quick. He wasnt a particularly big heavyweight.

Im not disrespecting escrima and Elorde, man.

When the article said Elorde may have been the one who taught Ali the "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" style AKA arnis/kali/escrima, I remembered the article about Ali's interview as a younger man, when he said Tunney was one of his inspirations and where he got his boxing "blueprint".

If the Arnis article had said that Gene Tunney was heavily influenced by Filipino martial arts, and that his style was copied by Ali, which Ali really did say in an interview, it would have sounded more credible for me. Just me.

Again, I'm not degrading Flash Elorde here.

god bless you underdog, you are proof that not all pinoys suffer from an inferiority complex. so much so that they exagerate everything and sometimes straight up lie to make themselves feel adequate.

Here it is again ..Wikepedia... I just cut and pasted it..dont blame me:deal

It is widely believed that the Mano Mano skills influenced

once Filipino immigrants moved to the USA. Until the arrival of Filipino boxers in the USA, American boxers used a "

" stance with arms stretched out with both fighters standing toe to toe exchanging blows. It is believed that the Filipino boxers were the first to use a more closed or tight guard with the bobbing and weaving motions that are common features in modern boxing style. The fact that Filipinos were well versed in weapons fighting, in particular knife fighting, is believed to be the reason behind Filipino fighters having tigher guards and the bobbing and weaving motions. The American boxers soon adopted the Filipino style, and this format changed the art of boxing worldwide to the one recognized today. Even though the Philippines produce many world class boxers in the lighter weight divisions, many still currently study their indigenous martial art.

Chimba, after everything I explained about why that was not fact, or accurate, you still don't seem to have taken anything on board. Ignorance is bliss I guess. In my eyes you have lost a great amount of credibility by not only creating this thread, but by continuing it.
