You don't have Wiki behind you. I have explained that thoroughly. It is simply an article, about a martial art, NOT ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF BOXING, that states from interviewing martial arts practitioners that Pinoy martial arts INFLUENCED boxing. Key word: INFLUENCED. You are trying to claim that what we see in the ring today is how Pinoy martial arts practitioners fought many many years ago. Do you realise how ridiculous you sound? Anyway, its become a pointless arguement, like I said, Zero credibility.

 

But all your posts are not implying that it merely influenced it to some degree, but that it rather was the major factor behind what boxing has become today. I have said many times in this thread that I thoroughly agree that it probably did influence boxing at some point, but you are still trying to argue a point. Your posts contradict themselves throughout this thread. You argue the point, then when losing simply claim to be exaggerating to save face. BTW, I am not the only one getting hyped up, plenty of people have called this thread on what it is, you have just chose not to listen to them.

First, Wikipedia is not a credible site in academic circles. For example, Im a grad student, and I would never site Wikipedia for ANY reason. Its simply not to be take as fact.

Does this mean that the assertion is not correct? I do not know, but I would be careful believing things you read on their site. At best, use it as a quick intro to a given topic before doing further research.

 

Even high school students where I live are not allowed to quote Wikipedia as a reference for assignments. But that is not the ONLY reason here why this thread just doesn't add up. Anyway, Chimba, if all you want to hear is that Pinoy martial arts influenced boxing at some point, then as said MULTIPLE times throughout the thread I agree. To me it is obvious this is not what you are attempting to argue here though.

 

It isn't certified, however it is often very accurate and anything they find that isn't accurate, they change as quickly as possible. But because it is open to the public for alteration, it is problematic to use it as a source for anything academic related. Often though, if you scroll down to the bottom, the author sources his information, and if you click on it, you can find certified encyclopedia's and authorities on the subject matter that you CAN use.

 

Times when I do find it insightful is when you can tell they have used a multitude of resources, that have different perspectives on the subject, and find some sort of common ground. This particular article IMO was quite biased. The people who were interviewed, the sources used ect all pointed to the fact that it was written to highlight the fact that Pinoy martial arts influenced modern boxing, not to be an objective discussion regarding the origins of boxing, the various influences throughout the last century, and how much influence they had on boxing as a whole.

 

I didn't read that article. Of course if you look up an article on boxing there, it will have good information. When and if someoen finds something on Wikipedia that is incorrect, reporting it will get it removed until verified. And if someone simply BS's and alters and article (like Jack did on DLH) it is usually changed back within a couple of hours. They get an alert on anything that is newly posted or altered on the site and have people who look at it and make sure it's not crazy or something.

Yup, about a year ago. He went on there after a discussion similar to this one and changed the DLH article to say things like "The Golden ******" and the "The Golden Turd", along with other things like inserting untrue things into paragraphs already there. Three hours later the article was reverted back to it's previous status and locked for the time being. I believe it is unlocked now though. They take their site very seriously and I believe they are trying to get recognized as a legit encyclopedia.
