How about you watch the video, or are you just going to be stubborn and be stuck with the mentality that Golovkin's defense is "average".
I'm a defense aficionado and I've seen most of his fights. The defense just isn't elite, sorry. It ain't no Sweet Pea or Floyd Joy Sinclair lvl defense, that is 100% sure.
If you aren't willing to have your mind changed then you don't have to reply to this thread. I didn't post this just so that people can post their stubborn beliefs.
Started watching the video... 3.45 in the guy uses a clip of GGG getting tagged flush and says 'look at the way GGG places his gloves, because of this the punch only lands on his forehead'! What an example of defensive wizardry.
He corrected himself, but you're watching the video just to critique the slightest of mistakes instead of trying to look at Golovkin's defense in a new way.
I mean, isn't that what you're doing? Someone else says something that's not aligned with your beliefs and you're bashing em LMFAO. I think it's clear that his defense is average, but you just don't wanna hear it. You're the stubborn one here, pal.
No, not really, I sent a video, and you replied without watching it. I'm not bashing you because you think his defense is average, bashing you because you replied without attempting to watch the video.
I agree with the video , for the first time in his career , GGG was boxed into a defensive shell by Canelo. He shoulda focused a bit more on hitting back instead of prancing away every time he saw pudding fist Canelo throw a punch.. lol Also note how terrified GGG is of body shots.
This has been covered many times. Most of shots get blocked, parried or avoided all together by those few-inch steps but hey, Golovkin is a robotic puncher isnt he.
LOL... The video is calling GGG's defense golden. That's the problem with the video. It's obvious to anyone looking, even at the video, that he was getting hit way too often. Just go to 4:19 where the dude says GGG knew Canelo couldn't fight for 3 minutes straight so he TOOK Canelo's shots. That's not golden defense!
I saw that part, I LOL'd. Yes he corrected himself about it hitting the side of the head, but that punch landed well by Canelo to the side of the head. It was a scoring shot by Canelo. Suffice to say, that particular moment is not a good example of good defense from Golovkin. Fair play to him though for highlighting some of Golovkin's blocking and moving away at times, it would be helpful if he didn't cover the round / time display so we can pinpoint when these moments happened in the fight, but nonetheless a useful video. I don't think anyone would deny Golovkin is a defensively sound fighter, the difference is that Canelo's defense is at a much higher level. (Canelo uses head movement, upper body movement, and is more effective as a counter puncher etc) G walked into more flush shots than Canelo did by G being over-aggressive at times. In the rematch, Golovkin's defense may be the biggest key to the fight for him if he has a shot at winning a decision. Due to his lack of upper body / head movement, G's blocking is crucial to negating Canelo's offense. (And knowing when to "move away" at the right time) I know his fans pride him on his aggression, but in this video they highlight moments where G moved away when Canelo was throwing. G can't always be coming forward in the rematch as much as his fans like that about him. When he sees Canelo trying to get in his offense, he's got to know when to move away and don't give Canelo as many openings to land punches. Because Canelo will find ways to get through that guard if you keep coming forward. Canelo will mix up jabs through the guard, looping right hands around the guard to the side of the head, etc then jabs to the body, hooks to the body, etc. This video does show moments where G utilized effective "distance control" however these moments were too few and far between. G needs more consistent "distance control" in the rematch to lessen the chances of Canelo landing the kind of big punches he did in the first fight that swung some of the rounds in Canelo's favor.
