In the film "The Great White Hype", there's a sequence where the Samuel Jackson character is looking at films of white heavyweights that he will conceivably promote. It's very funny....Jackson first compliments the white heavyweights on their attributes, then sinks in despair every time they get knocked out. The film sequence features about six fight clips in a row being watched by Jackson. They are all real fights. One of them obviously is Ecklund being kayoed by Tim Witherspoon. Who are the rest of the fighters in that film sequence? I've always wondered.
Can't say............. I never liked the film...... I tried once or twice to sit through it, but I could NOT!! It was hogwash.... Even as a comedy I felt it sucked........ But I am a fan of Sammy Jackson........... Damon Wayans is okay from time-to-time........... MR.BILL
I thought the film was very, very funny. Jackson always does a great job. The guy who played the "white hype" put on a great performance too.
I prefer Wayans in "The Last Boy Scout" with Willis from '91...... I liked that flick...... Sam Jackson will never get another role like 'Jules Winfield' alongside Travolta in "Pulp Fiction." That flick rules....... MR.BILL
I remember seeing part of the movie a few months ago for the first time in years, and even if not much else is very realistic, I thought it was kind of disturbing how close it is to real life when it comes to the hype part of the business, how promoters build up no-hope challengers in order to fleece viewers. Anyway, I remember they definitely showed Tommy Morrison being KO'd by Ray Mercer, and I think maybe Gerrie Coetzee or Botha or some other white South African, because I remember them all rooting for him to lose and cheering when he got KO'd.
I remember one of them where they go "oh it's Dolph Lundgren" that's Anders "lillen" Eklund when he got KO'd by Witherspoon... http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=639&cat=boxer
