I've seen an interview with Jimmy Jacobs in 1987, where he claimed that he owned a copyrighted version of the Tunney-Greb match in 1922, he said that it contained 3 or 4 rounds of the fight. Also, I wonder about the training film of him for his fight against Walker. How is there film of that, but none of the fight itself? I don't buy it. I've also heard that his very last fight against Tiger Flowers was filmed as well. Thoughts?
There are several threads that detail this same subject... I would bet anything that those fights, along with many others, are safely in the hands of either private collectors, a private party, or in some archive somewhere, maybe categorized or misnamed. There's a small chance (in my opinion) that its been lost to history or simply hasn't been officially found yet, which means its been lost... Those fights probably wouldn't be salvageable if found at this point.
Ive tracked the worldwide distribution of the Greb/Walker film. Its taken lottsa painstaking research.
Im researching where it was distributed to. Ive found one destination and im researching the surrounding archives. Thats about it.
You mean like where it played in movie theatres? Thats disappointing. I thought you meant you were close to finding it. What other old movies have you found?
anyone on here that knows mike tyson would be able to confirm the jimmy jacobs claims ive said it a dozen times before.
I spoke to someone (now deceased) who had seen Harry Greb fight on film, when he was serving in WW2. He used to talk about Greb and Tunney a lot. But I don't know what fight it was. I wasn't even aware that Greb footage was lost until I came on the internet within the last ten years. Every says the same thing. Some of his fights were definitely filmed, and some were being viewed many years after. But they haven't been sighted in decades.
