Film of Prime Archie Moore to be showed on ESPN classic

    Monday Night at midnight, Archie Moore vs Jimmy Slade 1952 is scheduled to air on ESPN classic. Its nice to finally show some film of archie at his best.

    For some reason (to me, anyways), the term "prime" seems somehow inappropriate in connection with Archie. "Vintage" strikes me as a more suitable description of Moore at his best.

    Well most of the film shown on ESPN classico of moore is against Durell in 1959 or Ali in 1962, when he was in his 40s. At least showing film of him in 1952, fight fans get to see an indication of what his real style speed was like, and when he was in peak shape.

    EPSN did show Moore vs Maxim. Archie looked pretty good.

    Many have suggested that Archie never looked faster or more impressive than he was in the rematch with Durell. He certainly was amazing in that return go, as many of us have already seen. Naturally, it would be fascinating to have an opportunity to compare that performance to other displays produced by Moore in earlier stages of his career.
