He needs to circle to his right after throwing his right because that`s how he got caught so much by Ruiz.
After Jones threw his right hand it brought his chin near Ruiz and he didn`t move quick enough after throwing the punch.
I assume you mean not circling by "that's how he got caught." The bigger issue I saw was that Ruiz was able to drop overhand rights over Joshua's jab since wasn't moving away from Ruiz's right hand. He pulled straight back before the second knockdown also.
My point wasn't that AJ landed less than 9 punches per round. Nobody disputes he had an awful fight. My point is that the ****ing WINNER landed less than 9 punches per round. That is an anemic output.
He just needs to do what Robert instructed, keep it long work off the jab 1-2 and eventually openings will come up like the uppercut. If he hurts or drops Ruiz don’t go in for the kill as this majorly backfired in the 3rd round
what he needs to fix the most, should be the easiest to fix. aj needs to learn to exit an exchange against ruiz. ruiz likes to fire off rapid combinations after you stop punching, thats how he catches you. or rather, thats how he caught aj. aj needs to exit by stepping and dipping to either side after he fires off the last punch of his combo. dont give ruiz a target to spray punches at. all the rest will get easier to deal with if he can take away that opening from ruiz. ruiz wasnt really pushing the pace. yes he was pressuring, but he wasnt firing a whole lot of shots. so just make it harder for him to fire the few shots he is comfortable throwing, in the few circumstances in which hes comfortable throwing them.
I wouldn't be so sure. Although I would not have picked Bert to beat AJ before last Saturday night, the timid way AJ fought would certainly give Cooper some openings. I guarantee you that Bert Cooper hit harder than Andy Ruiz. And, when in shape, Bert Cooper threw more hard punches than Ruiz does.
No way and Ruiz has faster hands than Cooper had, AJ would just counter Cooper after he punched because he had no defensive skills.
