So the fight will most probably land in Russia or Germany at the end of January '08.

Will US fight fans to be left out in the cold in the same manner as for last weekend's fight between Povetkin and Byrd or will HBO/Showtime will have kinda tape delayed broadcast?

    Thoughts?

The demand is far more for Povetkin in Germany, then either Brock or Chambers have in America. If they want to make money the fight will take place in Germany, and most certainly the USA wont televise it.

Why is a tournament necessary? Isn't the rankings supposed to select a mandatory challenger?

For once that one of these tournaments goes as planned, takes away some politicking in boxing and actually requires worthy boxers to fight it out in the ring, I sure am not going to complain.

Most likely not. After all Direll's fights are much more significant and entertaining.

I would hope that HBO would pick it up considering that the winner is supposed to get their boy Wlad.

Although, I wouldn't count on it, since American TV has dropped the ball on all these good European heavyweight matchups. We are reduced to youtube, getting the download from someone, or buying dvd copies.

From that article: "After the fight Chris Byrd stated that having lost only to Russians three times now (author: Wladimir Klitschko is from the Ukraine), he has to lose to an American first before he calls it a career. His record stands now at 40 wins with 4 defeats and one draw."

Wow, Ike Ibeabuchi is one dark skinned Russian.

But seriously, Chris should take one more fight in Flint or Detroit against a soft touch, then call it a career. I've loved watching his style since the early days, but it's time to go train or minister now.

I've canceled my HBO subscription. I may not be able to see Kessler/Calzaghe on HBO, but I don't care. Their idea of what is good boxing is a joke.

It is truely disgusting that nobody picked up the Povetkin-Byrd fight in America. Buildup fights are the essential building block behind super fights. Without those supporting fights, the superfight means zilch to the average joe.

Tom I think that Povetkin vs Brock/Chambers lands on the under card of Klitschko vs Ibragimov.

I don't think so - a main event on German TV would be better in case of monetary terms for Povetkin/Chambers as to fight on the undercard of Klitschko - Ibragimov...

That's odd , I remember hearing Byrd's interview and he said 'I've never lost to an American , I've only ever lost to a Ukranian , African and Russian fighter '

Yeah, I just watched the interview and that's what he said. Must've been misprinted. I guess they do teach geography in Flint schools.

Sorry to hear you canceled your HBO subscription, but the Calzaghe/Kessler fight looks good.

I agree though about what they of good boxing being a joke, I have really only seen 4 or 5 good fights all year. The Pavlik/Taylor fight was amazing, I had a really strong feeling that Taylor would go out of his way please fans and prove his ditractors wrong, big mistake on his part.

I just hope the rest of the year pans out well, but Heavywieght boxing is the worst anymore.
