Generally speaking (not meaning you)....for all that gets made of Canelo getting gift decisions (I disagree by the way outside of the Mayweather fight and the Bird card in GGG). The flip side is that Canelo is so hated that people won’t give him any close rounds....for them to even acknowledge a 1 pt Jacobs win or a draw implies that he (Canelo) likely clearly won...and he did. And I say this as a guy who wanted Jacobs although I doubted he could be disciplined or consistent for 12 rounds. That is his downfall. For all the criticism Canelo gets for coasting, Jacobs has a career long pattern of not sticking to a plan for a full fight. It cost him against GGG IMO and it cost him again this past weekend. He has the skills and the tools...but lacks the discipline and consistency to fight at the highest level....or at least to win fights on that level. Pretty cool guy, but comes up short in championship level for me. With almost 150 votes only 9 % feel Jacobs won....with all the hate Canelo gets in here to me this is a very telling sign. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/your-verdict-canelo-vs-jacobs.628740/
Rd 1: Jacobs (close) Rd 2: Canelo Rd 3: Canelo Rd 4: Canelo Rd 5: Canelo Rd 6: Even Rd 7: Even Rd 8: Canelo (close) Rd 9: Jacobs Rd 10: Canelo Rd 11: Jacobs (close) Rd 12: Canelo 117-113 in favour of Canelo. I'm surprised by how few clear rounds I could find for Jacobs.
That’s one that sticks out to me. I don’t think either guy did a lot. Yet I see a lot of people , and 2 judges and 1 of the sky commentary team do the same thing. I felt it was a feeling out rd but also that Canelo took it. I think 1-3-6-8-10-11 are rounds that will divide a lot of people in our scorecards.
No one landed anything really clean, but Jacobs at least had some partial blows landed so I gave it to him. But not going to put on a passioned argument against anyone who thinks Canelo should have won it on aggression. I didn't think rd 3 was that close but 6, 8 and also 7 were very close. So that's four very close rds of the first eight alone... All in all I think it was a pretty clear win for Canelo. Give every close round to Jacobs and I still have Canelo by a round.
I know you said that you werent directing that towards me, but i feel inclined to say that I don't hate Canelo. In fact, I DO hate Mayweather but I still think he beat Canelo I simply wasn't impressed. Perhaps I focused too much of Jacobs during the exchanges
I finally found a fight I could score clearly for Canelo where he should've won. So I'm happy about that in a way, but still, I felt like Jacobs could've won that fight if he was more disciplined and stuck to what was working for him. He's not a good ring general and it cost him here.
