Final Thoughts on Sam Peter's Performance

They'll probably do more work on his weight for that one. I just don't think they needed to for Maskaev. Everyone who wasn't being partial here picked Sam by knockout. Against Waldo it's more of a 50/50 fight, especially considering the referee's work. So they'll probably be at a peak 245 again for a rematch.

I'm personally not convinced that Waldo can't be beaten with an aggressive jab. Ray Mercer at his advanced age gave Waldo some issues with his jab and I think a younger guy who can move a little better upstairs can do that. Sam is learning how to handle the left hook which he showed last night and that will make it extremely hard on Waldo to do anything but hold like he did in the first contest. If Sam can press behind the jab and keep that right hand next to his cheek, to avoid the hook, he has Waldo in the bag.

The thing to remember about these big guys like Waldo is that they don't attack the body. They stay straight up and move straight back. It's very easy to predict what they will do. Waldo just happens to be faster than most of them so he gets away with being predictable. So working in aggressively behind a jab and avoiding his left hook and uppercut is the way to win. All he has to do is press on Waldo long enough to where the big man tires out. And then it's over.
