Usyk should not have been fighting Dubois in the first place. All this controversy around a guy that was supposed to be a soft touch does make Usyk look bad.
Sorry if I came across as mean, that wasn't my intent. I was cranky and tired, since I'd been up all night watching hurricane coverage, I do live in Florida after all. So when that happens, I come across as extra blunt. But yeah, I still think he's the fighter he used to be and still the man. Sure, he didn't look all that great. But Crawford looked crappy against Avanesyan, Porter and Kavaliauskas, Inoue looked human against Dipean and Butler, Canelo looked average against GGG, Bivol and Ryder. So in the grand scheme of things. Most of Usyk's fellow Heavies have the same issues as I stated before. Same goes for his fellow P4P contenders.
The knuckles of the gloves were hitting WAY below the bellybutton area which is illegal. The only part of the glove that was touching the beltline was the thumb. Usyks belly button was at the top edge of the beltline, you could tell the knuckles main point of contact was below that. Low blow, but definitely not a direct one.
My final thoughts - Usyk showed enough for Fury to drag this out again and push Usyk into an IBF mando with Hrgovic before reviewing his choices
Every fight fighters are hit in that spot without any calls, it's a joke of a game really, it was clearly high enough into the body to be called a body shot, defo wasn't as low as the hip area, legal shot all day every day, because they usually are, we see fighters hit there and lower in every fight without calls. FACT!! But as the OP said, the ref called it, sooooooo it was what it was!!
Usyk looked fine This is as bad as people crying Canelo has slipped because he got schooled well above his natural weight class by a guy who could be undisputed and a multi-weight king if he could be bothered to fight, couldn't stop a literal brick wall in GGG and decided to phonebooth Ryder in front of his home fans Bring on Hrgovic. I want my man to pad out his heavyweight record some more. Start taking some Os
I feel you, mate. I've been sleeping around 4-5 hours/day for the last decade or so. It's partly due to the hectic nature of my job but partly down to the fact that I simply can't sleep more no matter what I do.
Agreed and people saying it was a knockout because Usyk stayed down are disregarding the fact that the ref ruled it a low blow so Usyk didn't have to rush to get back up otherwise I think he would have got up before the 10 count. I think Fury beats Usyk but I would have so much respect for Usyk taking the challenge against a massive heavyweight that Even Wilder couldn't stop in 3 fights.
Personally, I don't think Usyk would have been able to get up if it was ruled a knockdown but you are absolutely right, he wasn't even thinking about getting up because he didn't have to.
Dubois Appeal Officially Dismissed Addressing the situation, the WBA stated on October 12th : “The World Boxing Association announced the ruling of the bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. The result will stand after the WBA thoroughly studied the appeal made by Queensberry Promotions."
Half the fight he clawed and pounced like a cat. Dubois fouled. Then he stopped flying, stalked the behemoth in front of him and put him down with a rapier like jab. Much better than the boring 12-0 decision I was expecting.
