Finally did research on Roy Jones. He actually did avoid most of the top MW-SMW.

What were some of prime Roy's weaknesses?

His weaknesses were his strengths. He had mucho athleticism and speed and reflexes, AND he built a style around it. He wasn't a great boxer with those attributes, he was a finely tuned machine built on those assets. Once those assets began to falter, he had no fundamentals to fall back on. He would need to learn how to box and jab and protect and keep his hands up. That requires massive neuro rewiring and learning. It would have been better if he had been a better boxer with solid fundamentals with those nervous system based talents. Nowadays, with his reflexes diminished, he doesn't just lose some fights, but he gets KTFO. A great fighter would not get KTFO so much. He went from "unbeatable" to flopping about on the canvas like so much fish. In any case I question whether he ever sported anything much more than glassy face and I wonder if that was a factor in the development of such a one dimensional speed style though i suppose his glasscism could have developed as a result of it.

Of course he should have fought more elite fighters. That's what everyone wanted to see happen. But the poll question doesn't have anything to do with the title of the thread. They're two completely different points.

As I've already discussed with Mind Reader, that question came back to bite Tarver on the a$$.

Tarver had to lose a lot of weight after starring in Rocky Balboa in order to face Hopkins. Afterwhich, he claimed that he hadn't felt his normal self in the ring. But after his famous question to Roy, he couldn't mention that he'd had any weight issues.

"You got any excuses tonight Tarver?"

"Yeah, I think I was poisoned."

Roy's deteriorated a lot just since the Lebedev fight. He put in a great effort there, but that's coming up to 5 years ago now.

Over the past 5 years, it's been his lack of foot speed that's let him down the most. His upper body movement and his hand speed have been okay, but his legs have betrayed him. But it sadly appears that he now no longer possesses hardly any hand speed. I've watched his training footage from almost all of his recent fights. But when I watched how slow he was on the pads in preparation for Enzo, I knew that he'd finally come to the end of the line.

I can't respond to the last line of your post, as you have to be trolling.

I think that the version of Roy that fought Ruiz, would breeze through every CW today without a care in the world.

You've already alluded to the Lebedev fight. That version of Roy was 42, coming off of knee surgery and a year out of the ring. Yet he had a lot of success. Compare that version of Roy with the one that fought Ruiz. That was a different fighter completely. Those versions of him were world's apart. So you can make a educated guess on how a fight with the Ruiz version of Roy might have played out.

Enzo had beaten a higher calibre of CW than Roy in Braithwaite.
Thank goodness that wasnt prime Enzo

Like I give a flying about your respect

Dawson or Tarver in my very strong opinion was not at the level of the fighters you mention and I noticed you have not included DM (wisely).
I always felt Dawson feasted on a weak time at LHW fighting fighters who were also fortunate to be in a weak era and in many cases on the downside of their careers. G Johnson was losing to many fighters at SMW, goes up to LHW and becomes a factor and he looked unfortunate to some against Dawson and had Dawson in all kinds of problems. Do I really think the fighters mentuioned would when prime have struggled with a SMW journeyman? I dont either.
Consider how YOU keep saying Jones was not the same fighter after being a HW, yet he was able to beat Tarver at that time.

Thats levels below Rocch, Maske, Tiozzo

    As for your next subject
What I wrote was arguably, and it is arguable that Tiozzo beating DM clearly (the only fighter to do so, with an genuine win over DM) is arguably better than any Roy has at LHW. Tell me what better accomplished LHW Roy beat? He didnt

Ups and Downs, thats right. Roy had been stopped less than Enzo and had Roy been able to get to LHW, I wouldnt have been shocked at all if Roy looked like old and stopped Enzo, but at CW where Enzo was a known force that if you didnt get him he would likely get you and thats what happened

I hadnt noticed that, but will have to go back and have another look. Griffin although not a top LHW was undefeated and had beaten Roys best named fighter at a weight the opponent was likely more comfy at, so I will go back and look for the fear signs

Roy has a better HW resume than he does at CW. But the Roy that beat Ruiz would have smoked Enzo with ease.

There was no fear in either fights. Same look, except Roy looked more fired up in the second fight.. Not the signs of a fighter that was exposed or in fear.
